It’s still supported and developed, but it’s not an area where most activity is currently focused. It is very stable, even more so when it was first added, since bugs are being fixed and regression tests are added. You can see what issues a

I’d suggest reading https://netflixtechblog.com/enhancing-the-netflix-ui-experie... , it’s quite accessible and gives a good overview of the space.

PNG supports up to 16-bit depth, and it’s actually a good choice based on an analysis[1] Netflix did in 2018. [1]: https://netflixtechblog.com/enhancing-the-netflix-ui-experie...

My current strategy is to never downvote (not counting the rare accidental misclicks that I don’t know about). Instead, I try to upvote other things that deserve to stand out. Leaving something at 0 upvotes is still a signal, although it’s

For anyone curious what a Go version of the same article would look like (as I was), I tried to answer that question by writing https://dmitri.shuralyov.com/blog/27 .

Nice list and diverse list, at least in terms of looks. Would’ve liked to see the Keyboardio Atreus ( https://keyboard.io/atreus ) also included, what makes it stand out is a minimalistic and portable design.

This has been my experience too. There's something futuristic about playing the game at 1080p/4K on a 32" external display connected to a 13" MacBook Air with an M1 CPU. It feels like it shouldn't be possible nor wo

I've tested this myself, and unfortunately it doesn't seem to be possible. I tested with macOS 11.1.

A question I haven’t seen answered anywhere so far is whether it’s possible to connect these to a computer via a Lightning to USB-C cable to transfer the audio signal in addition to charging. If so, how does the audio quality compare to the

Maybe it's because the dark mode is new and in beta, waiting for more user feedback before they feel comfortable making it default in more situations.

It’s hard to judge the price accurately without also knowing how long these will last before they need to be disposed of due to the wear and tear caused by regular use. If they cost $550 and last 1-2 years, that’s quite different from them

I wonder if this contributed to Apple removing the light-up Apple logo on the backs of MacBook screens. If it were still there, it would give it away when the backlight brightness is changing and potentially become distracting.

Which other ARM chips are you comparing with? It’s not much faster than A14, Apple’s other ARM chip. Which in turn is around 20-30% faster than A13, etc. Apple has been making their ARM chips faster very gradually over the last 8 years. M1

Is the pattern of putting the publish year when it’s not the current year still used on HN? If so, I think this needs a (2007) or (2014) suffix.

The article mentions that if all seven billion individuals could communicate efficiently and agree to use extra time-saving services to rest, the rat race may be prevented. But I think it is incomplete: we may still need to rush in order to

I’m quite sad about the decrease in information density in the UI. :/ My preference is to able to fit many apps side by side, and bigger fonts and spacing between elements (e.g., in the menu bar) goes against that goal. I haven’t actua

The information density in the UI was excellent. If you had a large display, you could fit many windows side-by-side.

Another consideration when making this kind of a comparison between an older laptop and a newer one is how much dust or debris are in each of them. If it’s an unequal amount, that’ll skew the spec comparison.

I use a simple code editor with as few extensions as possible, and a terminal. My goal is to keep my setup as simple as possible so that I’m able to switch easily, but I’m not really looking for more features or functionality.

Is there any confirmation if next year we should see macOS 12 or 11.1? I hope it’s the former, as that will make yearly updates to macOS more consistent with iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, and watchOS.
