I empathize with what you're saying, and in this case the notion of "stealing an idea" was a bit more blatant than most, but I still think two versions of Svbtle is better than one. Let's look at some positives of what the clone did: 1) It

Yeah - I agree with you. I was responding to the commenter's post - re: staying away from Facebook altogether, especially if you're a business. That logic makes no sense.

Would it really be in their best interest to shut down the marketing efforts (and Facebook pages) of every company with the word Book in its title? If that ever happened, this would get challenged and antitrust laws would rule against FB's

I've always thought Facebook's was pretty good - "work fast and break things" I doubt that's the top corporate motto (I think that would be "making the world more open"), but it's been associated with them quite a bit and it rings true (in

A few people have touched upon it, but the Chicago startup community is very small (compared to SV). Regardless of your opinions around why they were bought, it is nice to see an exit for a Chicago startup (even if they are eating their own

This is a great repurposed version of the Hipmunk interface, Surprised no one else has made the connection! FlickMunk won the techcrunch disrupt (hipmunk for movies) - I wonder how many other applications for this interface style will pop

Fair enough on KickStarter - I've seen it used in both cases. I think with your resume the community over there would really enjoy it, but fair enough. Re the design, all I meant by too much work is that I actually needed to look for where

Have you thought about releasing this as a KickStarter project? Might be good from a marketing standpoint? The design of this page is sort of hard for me to get through - I know you intentionally made it informal, but maybe something to con

I think what's throwing me (and possibly others) off is the first example on the features page. I know what you're saying, but "dumbed down social media tools" and "here's how you sign up for an account on twitter" are pretty different. I'v

Usually the free product gives you a taste of the premium one. It sounds like your idea for a free product is totally different (if I'm understanding your point correctly). Something to consider.. I do like the idea of a codecademy for soci

Don't spend money. $50k is a hell of a lot of money to spend to build a prototype. Depending on what you're trying to do, it should not cost that much. Just get your minimum viable product built, whether you're building it yourself after sp

I think it's useful - all of these sites fall into the social networking space, but they all have different ways of changing these things (and every site is changing them, at that). Next logical step is tapping into API's for settings API's

Yeah - another good way to go for this is to find awesome and completed photoshop files and then try to reverse engineer how they were created. Theme and template gardens usually provide the photoshop file, you'd be amazed how much you can

Yep - my favorite is companies who send you one last email (after you've unsubscribed) just to let you know in case there was some huge mistake. A total pet peeve, but the companies who send these confirmation emails are the same ones who m

Funny that their "new" feature doesn't take into effect the new timelines. It won't be hard to integrate, just doesn't seem like they wanted to change it before making the announcement.

linkedin works pretty well = search for the skill set you need, and it will show you connections that are close to you - then you can get a reference from your direct connections who know them. That's been the most effective way I've found.
