This. I used to work at an organization that paid conspicuously less than local market value for comparably experienced developers. The work environment, however, was a really pleasant one to work in. There were quarterly and annual company

I might be mistaken here, but isn't Bitcoin the currency with an ultimately fixed amount, with a known, predictable rate of growth (of the number of Bitcoins in existence)? How can this volatility then be attributed to Bitcoin, and not the

You're absolutely right, I didn't mean to imply what schools & corps currently do was shady in any way (as long as you're aware that they're doing it).

What is the difference between someone stealing physical dollars from a bank and the bank inventing new dollars through the practice of fractional reserve banking, other than one practice is legal and the other is not?

We hope ads/no-ads arms race would end there. But I could easily see some unscrupulous/greedy ISPs then resorting to setting up SSL proxies to MITM your ostensibly secure traffic, as some private organizations (schools, corporations) alread

Typically we comment on HN in English. For the curious/lazy, the parent comment roughly translates from Bosnian into English: "Why didn't you stay in Sarajevo?" (Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia)

When I was using eclipse, I found VRapper[0] a decent enough vim plugin. I also agree with you about IdeaVim, it's a good vim, and it's been open-sourced[1]. [0]: http://vrapper.sourceforge.net/home/ [1]: https://github.com/JetBrains/ide

Sometimes I think it might be even more benign than this. Some hiring managers are already so ingrained into their work culture that it's already become transparent to them. "Don't ask the fish about the water," and all that.

I'd like to piggy-back on your mention of Linus. It reminds me of a recent video I saw wherein he talked about how the work on the kernel works within a natural hierarchy. The whole video, IMHO is worth a watch, but the relevant snippet is

I appreciate how you compare the value add relative to the cost of the time it would take your own engineers to do it themselves. If it isn't strategic or core to your business, don't be afraid to consider outsourcing it.
