Not dumb at all. Keep using 1.x for everything until IE 6/7/8 drop off your radar.

That last one. Given our past record on supporting things you shouldn't be too worried. But if you are, go to our GitHub project and click the Fork button.

I didn't mean to say that's _all_ you can do, but people often expect more than qSA can deliver, especially if they've been using jQuery/Sizzle for a while. Sizzle also works around bugs in qSA implementations when they exist. qSA's design

Since people see jQuery as a solution for cross-browser issues, dropping some browser support is the biggest change imaginable.

There's a difference between working as a web page in all browsers and working in all HTML-rendering environments such as the ones listed in the bullet points in the blog. For example, Windows 8 apps or Chrome add-ons have additional securi

If you use really simple class and id selectors, the qSA-based selector engine may be fine. However, I think a lot of devs would be surprised about how much Sizzle is doing for them.

Sorry if I seem cranky, but did you READ the blog post? jQuery 1.9 supports those browsers and the jQuery team still supports it. Do you have a problem with us supporting a second version that can be smaller, faster, and work in places othe

Hi Ian, I think you're doing an amazing job, but basically by yourself if the GitHub graphs are any indication [1]. It helps to have a group of people with differing experiences and perspectives when designing an API, and of course more peo

jqMobi and jQuery Mobile are two very different things. Despite "jq" in the name, jqMobi is not jQuery (or jQuery Mobile) compatible. It has a similar syntax and implements a subset of features, but even the APIs with the same names are not

Right, and even better than a document fragment since fragments have both unusual semantics and API limitations that normal elements do not (e.g., no getElementsByTagName or getElementById).

In the comments they mention about 1/4 the energy density of a lithium ion battery, so yes they don't compete on that measure. But full charging can happen in a minute or two, and you could top up a charge in seconds. Perhaps public areas w

Why pick on Chrome? How does this differ from extensions offered by Firefox or Internet Explorer? They all allow essentially similar behavior. Eventually it comes down to whether you trust the extension. If I'm running AdBlock it needs to b

I like my Thinkpad Carbon X1 Touch. It's kind of like a Macbook Air with a 14-inch touch screen. When sitting down I tend to stay with the keyboard and trackpad. However, when on conference calls I find myself walking around with the notebo

The thing I miss most about vinyl is the creative canvas that was the album cover. There's no way to hear _Dark Side of the Moon_ or _Sticky Fingers_ without also seeing the album in your mind.

The answers in that thread seem to be reasonable. XP is a decade-old OS, we should be glad that it will finally pass on April 2014. Supporting multiple operating systems takes time, especially for one that old. At some point it's best to mo
