So are the hacknights the best times to hang out and meet people? I certainly do want to meet people.

I was talking about the Easy Bay group ( http://www.meetup.com/EBRuby/ ), but now that you mention it I should join some SF groups. Come to think of it SF is only 30 minutes away from Berkeley where I'll be.

I'm moving to the Bay Area tomorrow. I'm attending my first meeting for Rails people in a few days! It's mind-blowing to be in an area where I'm not the only one who likes this stuff. So obviously I'm very excited by the idea of attending S

I know the dock was supposed to do away with indicator lights right up until the retail release itself. The message is clear: don't worry about what's running or not. Apple went back on it at the last minute, apparently. Before upgrading to

Some cities in America have traffic-synchronized streets where a driver going a certain (indicated all along the street) speed should hit the greens every time. The problem one one street I've seen it used for is, the sign is very vague abo

I'm a junior in applied math, and I'm noticing that a whole lot of my fellow applied math majors are also computer science majors. I've also seen that lots of the professors who let undergraduates do research look for experience with C or R

Does this mean they are bleeding money? Why would they need such a huge infusion other than if they have run out of cash? Well, I don't know. In other words, I think the claim that they are spending the money to "aggressively innovate" is

That was awesome. It really is a great sequence. Coincidentally, I was recently thinking about the Carnivale title sequence - it's by the same people.

I'm going to be a junior next year and I'm a math major. I've often wondered if math is even for me as an academic career as I don't see myself having any sort of significant insight to make it worthwhile. Perhaps I'm wrong. This is nice.

I moved to the US from Russia when I was 10, and my vocabulary is a pathetic 18,000 or so. Which is funny, because I consider myself pretty well-read. I usually just infer the meaning of new words through their context without looking them

There seems to be a big trend to try to expose 37signals as actually some sort of evil company or to diminish their image. Which makes sense due to their popularity and claims of excellence (which I think are, in this case, valid).

I can see that one of the ills of being popular is that there is someone somewhere to write a shitty blog post about every fucking file system operation.

I had a friend in community college that was 26. He was a roadie until 24 or so and then got his life on track - so in my head you are relatively way, way ahead. Maybe it's not what you want, but you might consider going to community colleg

Adding a single small feature doesn't take up that much space, but what differentiates this small feature from another? Why not add that one, too? Therefore only features that provide significant value exist.

It really doesn't. It can't change Ruby in a major way, can't charge for it, can't close-source it, etc. even if it's paying the creator.
