I wish any Electron app would also be available as browser/web app, so I could just run it in a browser tab (and save some resources/memory?). This is possible for Spotify and Slack but not for Signal.

What I've noticed is that people like the name of "dig". It has some advantages though (not described in this tutorial) like tracing and setting the DNS TTL but those are really edge cases. Host is indeed much more convenient

A trick I used some times was to create a big file on NTFS and use a loop back (block) device to format and mount it as ext4 (root) filesystem. The old kernel ntfs module had already write support for this. It was noticable slower but it di

Being called by the CEO to check the flight schedule (not work related) at the airport because he was sure I had access to an internet browser. I quickly changed my phone number after that.

When I was at re:invent 2019 I joined some chalk talks which weren't recorded (or not published). Some of the hosts told lot of details of their internal infrastructure.

If someone knows a way to keep using a Linux desktop environment on a MacBook I'm all ears! I've tried several ways, using Parallels, VirtualBox, QEmu, Docker Machine; using rdp, vnc, x2go/nx but all aren't snappy enough

I wonder why CDK uses an old version of the AWS SDK for JavaScript. I really like that CDK has some sane defaults (compared to CloudFormation where you have to define almost everything everytime). I also like it shows you a detailed progres

CloudFormation is slow (custom resources take hours to time out), it's unpredictable (behavior is different for different services). I wish it didn't use stacks (drift happens and can only be fixed manually) and was just idempoten

This all sound like marketing talk to me, at reinvent they talked about replacing xen (ring0) with nitro but I don't see how you could replace that with hardware.

This is a really nice explanation! I was also considering the birthday paradox to guess through a hard nas. It seems that the cgnat I'd like to traverse uses certain port ranges which could ease the guessing (I've read about nat t

I have the feeling that docker compose only supports a small subset of ECS. ECS has stuff like Load Balancers, schedulers and a parameter store in very specific ways. I don't think you'd want to use docker compose for that on AWS.

What I like most from Ansible is that a playbook is idempotent and (mostly) declarational. Biggest downside is that it's hard to debug (no realtime output) and a bit slow (but acceptable)
