Ubuntu 11.04 (GNU/Linux 2.6.38-10-generic x86_64) It's mostly a (very low-volume) mail and web server. It's got ~200MB of web, about 11GB of "cache" files for a photo app I've got (about 31k files totally 11GB). I do a little bit of low v

My experience with btrfs has been hugely discouraging. It's the rootfs on one of my machines, and just has lots of terrible behavior: * it's lost a lot of space - nearly 100GB * it causes all kinds of random pauses while running

There were three different security exploits. The first was rapping with a mallet to compress the springs and release the pins (similar concept to bumping). But don't forget: "In another bypass, they insert a wire into a silicon cover for

I came here expecting to see how to do this with CouchDB. It's already been done a couple of times. CouchDB provides data synchronization protocols and the simple rules for what acceptable incoming data looks like. Properties within the d

I'm really not seeing any answers here. I see that the project has decided it doesn't need (or hasn't yet implemented) some things that I think are fairly important. I'm missing the simple list of "this is very important and missing from a

Membase is a clustered data storage service your application uses. LevelDB is a persistence library. That makes LevelDB the kind of thing you plug into membase to get the unique properties it has to offer (or at least for fun).

I still use quicksilver. That's going to be a bit sad when I give that up. I use functionality in it that doesn't exist anywhere else, though.

This project is way more than that. Spatch looks pretty awesome as well. Both are tools built on top of this library for doing fun magic with code, though.

I looked at the API for SQS a long time ago after writing this: http://www.rockstarprogrammer.org/post/2008/oct/04/what-matt... I really felt like I must be missing something. This made no sense to me. The linked article suggests the au

When we released memcached 1.4.0, we gave out the source on floppy disks at OSCON. The majority didn't get it. "I don't even have anything that can read this" was a common response. It was surreal how many people thought we were serious

The idea of using "range" across what should generally be an infinite channel is not something I would've guessed existed.

Wow, that's not intuitive. :) Throwing in a "defer close(ch)" and that range thing did exactly the right thing. I'm not sure my API is right, but I know how to get it right now. Thanks a lot.

I wrote a bunch of go code this morning. It's definitely got a few really neat ideas in it. I tend to write erlang or c++ mostly for my day job. I do really wish the designers had a bit more erlang experience. Just a touch. Just enough

I do have a 15" antiglare in my MBP at 1680x1050. I don't see the point in removing items that don't take up space (e.g. SD). Sure, a GSM slot would be more useful there for many people, but I wouldn't pay more for a machine without that p

This is heavily biased due to the existence of IE8. If you're developing a site with interactive features, shouldn't you look more to where things are going than where they're coming from? Is the IE8 userbase growing or shrinking day by day
