I agree that its treatment of SSA is scanty. Muchnick, which I have started poking at, is much more thorough: The Dragon Book does go into what SSA is, but it does not tell you how to compute it while Muchnick does. However, I imagine it mu

I definitely would not recommend starting from page 1. You can pick at it gradually. Personally, I've gravitated more toward the second half of the book where it gets far more interesting. (I have the 2nd edition, where coverage of the back
