The problem I see is that if fewer companies are being funded early-stage today, then there will be fewer companies around to get later-stage funding tomorrow. One of the reasons we have so many companies getting later stage funding right n

So Google has decided to compete with Airplay. Although I guess this is better, because I'm assuming it will work with any router, and not just special ones sold by Apple.

And, to add on to this, when I think about it a bit more, I usually realize that I'm jealous not of the thing the person has, but of the feelings that I believe that thing will bring (happiness and fulfillment). And the truth is that p

I don't think you can completely stop being jealous. Jealousy of other people who have things that you want (or think that you want) is totally normal. To try to deny that is to deny that you are human. I have found personally that the

Late-2013 15" MBPs support HiDPI with 4K Displays. So it looks like you can hack 13-inch Displays to work with 1080p HiDPI at 52hz ( http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1741440 ). Since it maxes out at 52hz, I&#

The biggest problem I've seen is that most laptops can't adequately drive a 4K display. First of all, a lot of them can only drive a 4K display at 30hz (for example, my late-2013 Retina MBP). The currently available HDMI only goes

This is true. I have an email account that gets effectively zero email (other than Slack notifications). Don't know if this makes me more productive - IM seems like more of an interruption than email, but it's definitely interesti

Windows RT tablets didn't do well because they were too slow and too expensive. They were basically pitched as full computers, but the chips were too slow for that. The Surface Pro was only a bit more expensive, and offered much better

Qualcomm doesn't need to scale up. Qualcomm is slowly scaling up by releasing ever more powerful Snapdragons. Eventually, Qualcomm's chips will be fast enough to do everything we could reasonably want (or at least most things that

Windows apps will be ported to ARM. Microsoft already supports an ARM version of Windows, so this doesn't seem so far-fetched. Also, it is possible to build universal binaries supporting two architectures (Apple did this during the PPC

I have rather fond memories of using this while I was in high school (in the mid-to-late 90's). Considering that I didn't have a Mac at the time, it was one of the only ways I could play around with a real Mac (albeit a black and

I removed Safari and Email from my iPhone a while ago. It's great - I find that I usually just use them as time wasters. I actually had a flip phone before that, but I prefer the iPhone with distractions disabled.

To be fair, this only kills one of the multiverse hypotheses. I'm reading Brian Greene's "The Hidden Reality" right now, and he describes about 8 independent (or semi-independent) multiverse hypotheses. From what I under

The reason why it isn't available on Amazon is that it's published by Hachette. I looked up the book on Barnes and Noble, and the publisher is listed as Grand Central Publishing. A Google Search for "Grand Central Publishing&

From what I've heard, Quora was originally known as the place you go to get your questions answered by Charlie Cheever. I believe that Adam D'Angelo said this at his Startup School talk, but I may be mistaken on the source.

Can't you run a 28" 4K panel at 2560x1440 using a HiDPI mode? I run my 13" rMBP at 1440X900, which still looks pretty good. It actually looks pretty good at 1680x1050, except that everything is too small for comfortable work.

Databases only allow access to persistent data. To accomplish what Apple does with Handoff, they also need to sync application state. Although today's keynote was clearly a demo, it does show us the potential of run-anywhere apps.
