You know, your first paragraph sounds strikingly similar to the premise of an episode of Star Trek: Voyager, Critical Care ( http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Critical_Care_%28episode%29 )... They also found the idea silly

Is it really any different from traditional insurance? Don't most insurance companies take money from all their clients, and use it on a fairly small number of those clients? I personally don't see the "trap" you referen

BBT doesn't flesh out those characters. Most other shows I watch do. Ben Wyatt on Parks and Rec comes off as a much more realistic nerd than any of the characters on BBT. Abed Nadir in Community is also a whole lot more fleshed out tha

Some argue that if it makes calls to a GPL application, it's a derivative work, which means it must also be GPL. This means that if one part of the stack is GPL, everything higher must also be GPL.

I looked at Kirby. My problem is I don't really want to pay for it. Were I to pay, I'd probably go with Statamic, which is similar to Kirby, but looks nicer. Mostly I don't want to pay because I like the idea of open source,

I've found that since WordPress switched to the current sidebar navigation over the old one (the four main headings, of which Write was first, iirc) it's a pain to write blog posts. I'm also not a fan of the large number of

Maybe. I've been using a host of static site generators for about a year now, and for the less serious blog they seem to get in the way. I'd prefer to have everything online, accessible from any computer with an internet connectio

I agree, we don't need to reinvent blogging every few years, but WordPress has moved beyond just a blogging platform, and is a full-featured CMS. Blogging is no longer the main emphasis of WordPress. Were WordPress to refocus on bloggi

Well, yes, you don't need to work unless you want to. But is urban living a basic need? I can't tell if you're agreeing with me or not...

Most of the people commenting are probably urban or suburban residents, and as such, the minimum living wage is considered a lot higher than in a rural area. Basic Income shouldn't provide people the ability to live in an urban or subu

The money could come from a number if sources, like all existing welfare programs, or public pensions, which are already incredibly high, and could be substantially lowered. Or we could cut our ridiculous military budget by a tiny fraction.

Alternatively, we could find such a system by: 1. Using public pensions. While unlikely to be supported by the people making the laws (it is their pension), if they have basic income, they don't need a pension. 2. Move all funds curr
