I agree and would argue that these points apply even more to Exec because at least with this idea, you are only handling a single task (cleaning people's houses).

Completely unrelated, but why do stories having anything to do with Pete Cashmore always include a photo of him looking seductively into the camera? This one seems to be in some cool night club. As if knowing that the author happens to be a

That doesn't make the original statement untrue (or particularly interesting in my opinion).

But that's not what happened here. Instagram, to my knowledge, has never made a penny off of advertising. There is no clear business model. Maybe it's advertising. Maybe it's charging for additional filters. Nobody really knows, not the Ins

I think it depends upon what you define as "first." The iMac wasn't the first computer in the sense that it wasn't the first machine with a keyboard, mouse, and operating system. But it was the first along many important dimensions includin

So wait, you're saying a business is supposed to make money by selling something? You just blew my mind. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that what you are professing here applies to other businesses that have nothing to do with enterp

Love this. This whole "email is broken" argument reminds me of the "SMS sucks, and iMessage/GChat/BBM will destroy it" argument perpetuated by TechCrunch and other tech pundits. There are two reasons that email and SMS are not broken, and t

Not sure what's unusual about this except for the fact that it was assigned to 2nd years. I had to create a compiler from scratch during my course work, and I'm sure many other CS programs require the same. It is a great way to learn how a

Exactly. The money is gone "as far as the fund is concerned." But that money is no more gone than it is when I sell stock and convert it to cash. A fund not recognizing money does not mean that that money ceases to exist.

Also, if every dollar has one chance to multiply and you take one tenth of the fund and immediately double it at the beginning of its lifetime, that is an outstanding outcome. Just because you can't reinvest the money in that fund does not

Okay, you go ahead and bet on the companies that will pay you a 10x return in ten years and I'll take the 2x return in two months. Will Instagram even exist in 10 years? Who knows? I wouldn't bet on it. BTW, you're absolutely right. The 2x

Are you joking? You don't think a 100% gain is good for a 1-2 month timeframe? The most successful hedge funds in the world have money thrown at them if they can average 50% gains over the course of a year. And that is an outstanding year!

Once again, every brick and mortar pays a for-profit for nearly every service that enables it to do business, so that argument does not hold water.
