Sorry, jumping in here. I don’t think it’s so much iOS gloat as much as app gloat. Take a look at their sizes, it’s absolutely bonkers and unjustified.

This. I love Rust and I also love python, although for different reasons. But in python you can always find that one library or codebase that you need or that will inspire you to get there. In Rust it still sometimes happens that when you g

That is actually my point: if your dog likes to please you, it’s because in part it sees you as a leader. It’s not so much (always) about specific training (and definitely nothing resembling being an “alpha” in modern parlance).

Dogs actually don’t need food for training. It’s an effective, but “lazy” way to train dogs. The best practice is behavioral, to show you are the leader in the dog’s pack. Then you won’t need to ever give a treat for good behaviour. And eve

I highly recommend the Morgenstreich. It's really an amazing experience and it's awesome to think you are sharing the same experience as people continued to do for hundreds of years.

Back in the day, all I wanted is to be able to do like Natalya Simyonova in Goldeneye, in the train. I recall during the late 90s there was a (Windows?) programme I knew that did this, based on traceroute/tracert I would suppose. Just

That’s a great step forward. I use a combination of the Reminders and Calendar apps to mark entries of academic conferences I participate. One interesting thing for me personally would be to find a way to read the appointments in the Remind

I’d be interested to hear about how these trains (and others) would behave in an earthquake. I remember a work colleague who lived through the Loma Prieta going from Berkeley to San Francisco and I’m sure it wasn’t pretty. PS.: huge fan of

This. Zoning and car-centric life are endogenous. I would even add NIMBYism w.r.t. adding public transportation stops or bicycle lanes.

Indeed, this is a saddening development. Especially as people get older and need to interact with people they know socially on a frequent basis. This reminds me of one of the best cities I’ve ever been on, Brasília. Literally every block

I highly suggest this paper here for a more complete view of causality that nests do-calculus (at least in economics): Heckman, JJ and Pinto, R. (2024): “Econometric causality: The central role of thought experiments”, Journal of Econometri

Actually there is one way, which we use frequently at work and is quite effective. One of the participants has a screen shared and types in bullet points on topics and action points. In the final minute we just go over them and then as soon

Congratulations on the launch! Wishing you the best of luck. Q: why only US residents? Other brokerages in the US take in non-US residents (in my case, not even a US person).
