A few „anthropological“ impressions from this text. First, why do people throw away tennis shoes, unopened food etc? Why not take with them on to their next destination? Second, why not just put on the street so that other people can come a

This is a very sensible comment. One thing that could explain why I see (subjectively) a lot more bigger families in Switzerland where I live compared to other places in Europe is that cities‘ size is „just right“, so having a family to sta

TIL. I am not from an engineering/physics background so for me the original Unreasonable Effectiveness paper was Karpathy’s blog post about RNNs.

So, on an M4 I sometimes get faster training on plain vanilla jax compared to the same model in pytorch or tensorflow. And jax-metal often breaks :/

This is how some people in economics format their papers due to how some top journals require manuscripts to be. Source: I'm an economist (although I personally prefer to place figs/tables where they are supposed to be).

Will definitely read the book after this readout. Trying to get Xi to name his child is both completely tone deaf to the point of being offensive, and incredibly debilitating for his child's self-esteem as just a bargaining chip.

There is a huge survival bias that you are not considering. Today's parents that had unlimited access to the Wild West that was 90s internet and are successful today do not represent the whole population of people who had access to int

I agree with all your comment… except the very last bit. Do you really find python to be more efficient at engineering stuff than R? And especially speed, which in my experience at least is broadly the same if not faster with R because it i

This is exactly what I do for the vast majority of my academic papers. It combines the power and flexibility of R for statistics, which I agree with the upstream poster is incredibly underrated (especially with tidyverse) with python.

Well, not just the idea. The technical feats supporting Pix are actually amazing; it's a whole separate payments system that settles almost immediately, 24/7.

I live in Switzerland - TWINT has other differences as well. To start, its settlement is not immediate as Pix's. As you point out, it is also not standardised.
