I thought archetype-based ECS was the standard way to implement an ECS. Typically using bitsets or something to define an archetype. But I may just not be understanding what an archetype represents exactly. My only real experience with ECS,

Ignoring the specific claims in the patent (automatic memory optimization or whatever), if we're just going by entity component system articles, we can do a lot better. Here's one from 2007: http://t-machine.org/in

I love the immediate mode style of developing, but ImGUI specifically, at least without third party patches and extensions, has very awkward and limited layout (for example, I'm still waiting for this to get merged[1], which would make

> To make the top left pixel red on a bare metal system or RTOS, you simply write `framebuffer[0] = 0x00ff0000`. Really? In my brief experience it was more like sending a bunch of commands over SPI/I2C/UART to some LCD module.

I came to filing window managers through musca[1] and then goomwwm[2] (Get Out Of My Way Window Manager) and then switched to i3 (and more recently, away) because both Musca and goomwwm haven’t been updated in years. I still miss Musca and

I switched to sway last year when I bought a new laptop and had trouble with screen tearing on i3. It’s been working perfectly for me but I also haven’t done anything that needed me to load colour profiles. One thing I do still need to use

I use it when I use OS X, but I find it’s not substitute for i3/sway. It’s better than nothing but I still greatly miss a “native” tiling WM when using it.

This is my feeling too. Yes, beta might scare away users, but they may come back later. If someone signs up only to find it in "beta quality" and leave because its not up to their standards, those people aren't coming back an

For my own frontend stuff (ie when I get to choose), I've been using Clojurescript and re-frame for about 6 years now. Everything else, I've ignored. I'm much happier this way. That's not to say that I haven't learn

I had a nice one today where it complained about some thing not being invokable deep in some std code somewhere. Lots of crazy template instantiation errors. It turned out I forgot to pass the variant parameter to std::visit.

In my personal experience, its quite rare outside of a few specific cases where I need unbounded loops. The specific cases where I do need them tend to be event loops -- a game loop, a consume the queue loop, a read and process input loop,

My experience back in 2018 was similar. I wanted to do some fairly simple 2D things and it was quite a lot of hassle. I’m sure the issues I hit are fixed now, but at the time it was frustrating. With that said, I’m still happy to have contr

VS Code gives you a choice between actual characters and coloured blocks. Actual characters might or might not be discernable, it depends on how large you set your minimap. I personally make mine quite small, so there's no value to act
