   I’m at a 1000 person org and this is also how we hire. We have KPIs for “diversity” and the entire company gets a huge bonus when we meet all our targets, so there is a incentive all the way from the CEO to panel ICs.

   I left Sunnyvale (and the bay area) never looking back. I worked on Castro in MV and it was a 30 min drive 9 years ago. For me the quality of life is so much better outside of SV.

   Where I work ICs make a lot more than mid level managers. Directors and above, however, have substantial benefits not only limited to salary.

   Slack seemed to have gone viral around 2014 or so, my company stayed on IRC until around 2017.
