Excel's example is a big headache for us developers that sometimes have to interface with this as well. Really hard to search for documentation etc. when the formulas are localized.

Exactly, and most of the proprietary libraries and frameworks in Swift are in the exact same situation. They are mostly wrappers around macOS and iOS libs and UIKit/AppKit

on macOS? Shure they could. And if they really wanted to give a middle finger to Apple, they could consider deploying the game on AltStore, but that would probably close all future doors for them with Apple.

Well if Google is already hosting all the content in their walled garden (see AMP), this would still be able to crawl the content, and even be able to be the exclusive platform that could crawl that content (in theory)
