The problem you're asking them to solve is a legal one, but you are not interviewing lawyers. I have never worked for a single employer that didn't require an NDA, and the NDAs are always written in a way that can be easily interp

Why does that matter? Unless you're proposing unconstitutional restrictions on internal migration, people are going to want to move to places with jobs, culture, friendly politics, etc. and housing demand will reflect that for locals a

I think very few people can claim to an absolute principle against any kind of editing of books for children, since this has been happening for as long as books and children existed, including in the past century -- does anybody buy a "

Lincoln was an elected president and opposition to secession was not just his policy but that of the elected US government. Not a dictator.

What necessitated implementing the method was that _other people_ were saying that random test order didn't work with their existing test suites (written for Test::Unit). Not only did the minitest author compromise and add this method

If your tests aren't accounting for the effects of mutable global state on the code under test they are bad tests. Randomization helps catch bad tests.

If the tests are really interdependent to the degree that they cannot be reordered, they must be testing some kind of multi-step process. So the test should be named after that process.

There is no reason to have order-dependent unit tests. It's good for test tools to do everything they can to keep you from having them.

The context here is that Ryan Davis added test order randomization as a default feature to minitest, which was meant to be a mostly-compatible drop-in replacement for the old Test::Unit. Some people complained a lot about this and requested

If you don't have a lot of ego about code purity you probably won't mind typing a mildly self-deprecatory thing in your test setup, either.

Whatever problems the Ruby dev culture might have, being particularly _mean_ has never been one of them. There are probably people out there who would cite the renaming of this option in Rails (in 2014) as evidence that Ruby was "kille

Wealth and a cultural aversion to the trappings of poverty. Rich people don't need to eat offal. My dad hates the taste of liver because he associates it with the cheap liver and onions he choked down as a kid. Same with tongue.

Pretty much any language has linters or even automatic formatters to handle stuff like this. If people are inclined to be opinionated on these subjects, better just to let a program handle it and leave it out of the reviews.
