Nitpick: Governments don't have "the right" to do anything. We the people consent to grant them abilities. I think reasonable taxation is a perfectly legitimate function of government -- not many would argue that. However,

Ah, "spirit of the law". A favorite of the authoritarian (unless, of course, we are talking constitutional law). At what point do taxes become "taking"? Do they ever? I mean, why isn't the forceful confiscation o

Bingo. This populist/protectionist agenda on both sides of the isle is incredibly troubling. Turns out it's also an incredibly effective way to drum up support. The president "retro-actively" changing tax code does not

Thank you for your well thought out opinion. Honestly. I know I come at these issues with a strong personal bias, so it's a good thing for me to hear a well constructed counter argument. I guess I don't really disagree with you

I'm going to assume (and I do apologize if I am incorrect) that you're in the Bernie camp? I agree with the lions share of what you just said. But the collusion between big government and big business is entirely culpable for the

I see what you're saying, but I think we disagree on WHY it's a non-question. One person can't lay claim to all private property through voluntary exchange. What was he exchanging for "all" the property? My point

I mean this in the nicest way possible... It's cute that you think that. By that logic, assuming you are a tax payer, you are $159k+ in debt thanks to the government acting on your behalf. http://www.usdebtclock.org/

"The basic foundation" might be the wrong way to word it. That would suggest it is the ONLY tenet, which is misleading. However, private property rights are absolutely a tenet of [classic] liberal thinking. > The foundation o

A negative income tax is, imho, the least morally reprehensible replacement for our current welfare state (which is extremely immoral).

I disagree. Rights to locations are a practical necessity to classical liberalism itself, and are not at all at odds with its logic. The basic foundation of liberty is the ability to own private property. I think most (if not all) classi

Do you actively avoid legal tax breaks because you feel the need to pay your "fair share"? I would bet not. Why should Apple act any differently? They don't evade taxes... They actively seek to pay as little as legally obl
