I never had strong opinions when I was younger but now I do. I never wanted to be a lead but now I see it as a salvation from bad ideas. So yes, I think being right a lot is a real thing. Continue to learn and grow in knowledge while mainta

I'm not trying to convince you that zero page are hardware registers just that they can be thought of as register-like. If you were coding on a 68000 you might do some memory operation indirect via an address register like (a0)++ but o

You can do LDA ($0f),y This is using a 16 byte address in zp as a ptr + y offset For LD[$0f] #65 It's more instructions but you LDA #65 STA ($0f),Y (assume Y = 0)

Indeed the 6809 has several 16 bit stack registers as well as 16 bit X and Y index registers which mean you can use proper structures and it even has a decent mul instruction.

IDK - I guess you are mentally modelling it wrong. Think of the zero page as a bunch of registers - that's kind of how I modelled it and it was also the hump to get over that helped someone building a 6502 compiler backend. See the sl

6809 is a good point. It's like let's split the difference between 6502 and 68000! I started with the 6502 and graduated to 68000 on ST and Amiga and Sega Genesis. Definitely two of my all time favourites. Only recently have I s

Apparently one like this directly inspired Dykstra camera systems used in Star Wars. In that case it was a similar civilian system. https://www.sfgate.com/streaming/article/berkeley-experiment...

Paul Sajna with Dag Lem have created a beautiful 40 pin FPGA replacement for a oft needed part at the heart of a Kim-1 board that hasn't been made for decades.

You write this as if DeepSeek's R1 was conceived and written by AI itself. Do you have a link to that?

Yeah, I tend to agree. I think there is a familiarity and if you read up on how AI generates images it kind of works like that where it builds and amplifies noise or existing structure as a seed of a plausible image. Our perception of reali

I'm with you but I'm also thinking about how I didn't even see the capability we have no being as close as it was 10 years ago. In 2015 I would have guessed 2030 or beyond.

I agree - My point is that you'd be coding in assembly and the issue wouldn't be abstract since you come up against the limits of your integer size all the time.

I very much enjoyed the article but the subtext that 6502 assembler is worse than Cobol is quite the slight as a life long 6502 coder. ;-)
