There are probably hundreds of thousands (millions?) of websites out there that have the twitter bird logo at the bottom either to direct link people to share the article or maybe a link to the profile of the author or whatever. They are ne

I agree with a lot of the points in this article but I think the ship has long since sailed, it seems very unlikely to me that companies will revert to native frameworks over electron/chromium, the incentives are not there.

The ads on old.reddit.com are less intrusive.

Subreddits are not communities like forums were, on forums you'd get your regular cohort of people alongside newcomers and you'd start to recognise names, in jokes etc. I don't think Reddit has that same vibe, I barely '

I've been using old.reddit.com for years, nice and snappy (enough) website and easy to navigate. Similarly I use Baconreader on my phone which is also pretty great. I've never seen a compelling reason to use "new" reddit

I followed a similar beginners journey, mandrake and then Gentoo. Oddly at a very similar period in time (circa 2003/04). I've seen a bunch of posts recently reflecting on Gentoo and people saying they got started around 2003, was

My family had an Amiga 1200 when I was growing up although I was too young to do anything fancy on it other than play games. I do fondly remember watching my brother copy disks using X-Copy though and being mesmerized by the UI.

Interesting thank you for the video. I was going to comment on this post wondering how it's more efficient than just the merchant looking at a fixed screen which shows the incoming transactions. But the video demonstrates why the audio

Visual Basic was so good. Growing up all I knew was Windows, so being able to create fairly reasonable looking GUI apps at the time seemed like magic. I remember building a "web browser" in VB, I put that in quotes because it was

I remember my parents doing this too, I think there may have been some national campaign or promotion at the time to get the marking pens for free.

I moved from a Pi setup to a second hand Lenovo M900 tiny PC, with 24GB of RAM and nvme drive and it works great. The power efficiency is obviously not as good as the Pi but it's a reasonable trade off

I lived in London, UK for 11 years (renting) before the pandemic so never bothered learning to drive, the public transport there is so prolific it's almost seamless (tube, bus, overground, train, uber etc) Since moving back into a midl

I bought a Lenovo M900 Tiny a few months back which is quite a few years old (think maybe 2017?) and upgraded it to 24GB RAM, 120 GB SSD and 500GB nvme. With proxmox and a few vms running on there it idles around 11-12W which isn't ras

One interesting aspect of the OP is the question asker was in France, not the UK. Most likely starbucks just using a blanket/global terms and conditions document but still, interesting use of the word "unlawful"

That hasn't been my experience at all, at least in London, UK. There used to be a time where the oyster card was slightly faster than the phone in terms of registering at the barrier but that's improved a lot over time. I don'

It actually does work this way, you just need to setup your DNS for the other shorteners too :) List of supported ones is here: https://github.com/djhworld/theunwrapper/blob/main/config/un...

You don't always see the URL, sometimes it's truncated or just the t.co link, it's not very consistent. Additionally if I want to share a URL with friends it's usually polluted with all sorts of nonsense query parameters

This is awesome, thanks for taking the time to try it out! I honestly threw it together over a few hours this weekend so it's in a very rough state, and there's no unit tests for it, and none of the code is commented or structured

One thing I'd neglected to mention in the post is the sidecar uses a public DNS resolver to get the actual t.co link, but it's making the assumption that Go's stdlib enforces this: https://github.com/djhworld&

I looked at this and played with it a little. One crucial thing I use my pihole for is to forward traffic going to the .lan top level domain to my reverse proxy (traefik), I couldn't figure out how to do this in the pihole UI so I just

Been using this software for years, it's excellent. It's really eye opening when you have it turned off as well, like suddenly the filters are lifted and you see what the reality is for most people. Sadly the cat and mouse game be

Instead of the manual curation could this be automated in some way? e.g. a 'block list' of domains for the major outlets and maybe keyword filter.
