For me whenever I visit the new reddit, the fan in my Macbook Pro spins up and sounds like it wants to launch into space. The old reddit is buttery smooth in comparison. I really don't get it

I'd like to understand more details about your Presto testing. The post mentioned ORC files, but doesn't detail how big they are, how many, is the dataset partitioned? Is the data sorted in any particular way?

I have a few raspberry pis at home that I run a few Docker containers on, mostly personal stuff/tools/scripts/servers that I update infrequently but use a lot. Any software I write goes into a container, I like that abstracti

I'm currently learning machine learning at the most basic level, this is the sort of stuff I want to work towards though I deal with time series data a lot at work, I work in broadcasting/media and 99% of the time the data is fair

Very interesting article, didn't even know this existed. My first "proper" computer that my parents bought was running Windows 98, so will have missed this, but I remember using Windows 95 at school. We also missed the whole

Really excited to see things start to take shape, I'd imagine there will be a lot of rounds in that feedback loop to get it right, but glad to see the Go team have stuff on the roadmap

I try to use DuckDuckGo for a lot of my searches, although sometimes get frustrated and end up using the !g shortcut - but most times it's good enough.

I enjoyed reading this post, but came away with more questions. They talk about providing a service for developers to deploy stuff easily, but I'm wondering how that works in practise. I've very little experience with Kubernetes,

There's also the added complication of the fact it's an ARM based device so in some cases you might run into compatability issues, or testing your container locally becomes problematic. It's definitely getting better though

I have OCD, although it's not crippling. My triggers tend to flare up most at night before I go to bed, or in the morning when I leave for work. Did I checked the hob is off, is the fridge closed, did I lock the door? Did I close the w

For this trial we are transferring some data from AWS, which is already partitioned in S3 by quite a few dimensions, including DAY. As BQ only supports DAY partitioning, I had to create multiple tables that represent the other dimensions, b
