To me it seems that even software engineers and bankers in US and UK, at least those who don’t have parental support, will struggle to ever attain the things that are achievable to moderately ambitious european kids from the lowest wealth a

To be fair, being overly reliant on wheels for locomotion does have some serious consequences. Even cutting out walking and jogging in favour of *human-powered* bikes or wheelchairs will lead to bone density loss and muscular dystrophy.

Really enjoyed this article, even though I’ve only ever explored the basics of Julia. I’m always on the lookout for articles and guides that would help people with basic R, Julia and Python REPL skills to learn software engineering patterns

Why not sqlite? put the json in a single column, maybe copy some parts of it or metadata to another two or three. Should be faster than the filesystem for reading multiple rows.

I’m interested in the sharding approach myself but those hundreds of ms sound a bit slow. Do you have to do anything special to guarantee each sqlite instance executes in parallel with the others on its own core? Does the language you’re ca

Reading this was very valuable. I really appreciate the Vespa mention and introduction to their Multi-Vector HNSW Indexing - I’ve recently thought a lot about how difficult chunking is and this seems like a promising avenue.
