This is awesome. Do you have it written up in a blog post by chance? I'd love to link it to this answer: http://askubuntu.com/questions/27501/whats-the-difference-be...

I was mostly unemployed for a year or so. Admin assistant posts were attractive because it sounds like a simple office job. Also, 10-13/hr in an office is incredibly better than minimum wage labour. But as you say, over half are scams. For

Interestingly, the string of numbers is a real user id. I presume it defaults to your own profile because facebook.com/profile.php goes to your own profile, and fb simply ignores the malformed parameters.

What's wrong with using Kickstarter for songs? How would a specific service be better? It's worth noting that bands are already using Kickstarter.

Where I've lived, there are ash trays everywhere, not despite; because of laws prohibiting smoking in these areas. The idea is to provide a safe and convenient place to dispose of your cigarette now that you've entered a non-smoking area.

I don't like Unity for my own daily computing. I prefer a tiling wm, often with all windows full screened. I tend to prefer minimal gui. My preference is especially strong because my laptop screen has a ten inch diagonal. But on other machi

It's not a fair test; haven't tried a recent Ubuntu, but: suspend to ram and suspend to disk were broken on Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 with my Eeepc 900. Arch + TuxOnIce has worked great for suspend to disk for about a year now.

I prefer to go straight to a site, rather than detour through a search engine. That said, I use chromium, and use the address bar like a search engine. Sometimes the auto-complete half-way through typing is the search rather than the site.

Couple reasons I've encountered.. 1. User doesn't understand the WWW. They believe Google is THE gateway to everything internet. 2. User doesn't know (or has trouble typing) the exact address. Google tends to have the authoritative result f

How does it only affect linux firefox users? I think you're right about Adobe's motives, but it certainly affects any linux browser that could use libflashplayer, no? Ie Chrom*, Opera..

I think it's rather natural to think that something called "open" can be used, not merely looked at. I think it's also natural to emulate what is observed. If I can't use what I learn by observing something, what's the point? I understand t

For email, it's the same reason I object to ordinary mail containing tracking devices beyond those needed to deliver the mail. For websites, it's the same risk I take when leaving my house to visit any public place.

You need to put your link example with new lines above and below, indented by two spaces. This will put it in a scrollable code box instead of stretching the page. http://news.ycombinator.com/formatdoc

Off the top of my head, Facebook uses <wbr> to format link text. Eg <a href="http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lupq8leShl1qgxeuqo1_500.gif"> <span>http://28.media.tumblr.com/</span> <wbr />

I'm scornful because their "recanting" still explicitly names dns filtering as A Good Useful Thing that they are proud of helping refine. They explicitly say they are proud of and would love to support this legislation. They don't get it. "

With my credit union in California, wire transfers are $20 + 2-3 business days. This is cost prohibitive. Western Union is similarly pricey. Dwolla is an interesting competitor ($3/mo for unlimited instant transfers), but it needs wider ado

Jobs is more immediate than Steinman. Steinman does invaluable research out of the public eye. Jobs thrusts himself into public consciousness and directly impacts US society with his widely used and advertised products.
