What's the problem using UUID as a PK? I really like 128bit numbers for PK, more than 64bit-int or anything text. I'm generally putting a ULID or UUIDV7/8 in there.

I've had two little apps published in IOS store that both required accounts (paid account) that had to be created outside their universe. They let me in, after a few hoops. This was in 2016-2019 (but now they are PWA)

Seems a good place to mention https://sciter.com/ It's been on HN loads of times. A "browser" engine but very narrow scope. Works a treat for LOB type apps.

This is a case where ideas are "all around" - it's the kind of example that's wonderful for a new entrepreneur - to see your idea isn't unique (very few are). Execution matters. Y'all like the Uber and Lyft of

There is a place for you, somewhere. I spend loads of time on LoB apps, still rocking Apache prefork to CGI. Does it scale? Sure, to all 3200 users company wide. Everything it's boring. Caching? Never got in the Memcache vs Redis fight

My favorite features of mortgage vs rent is that mortgage is constant. So, in 10/yr I'm still paying $2000/mo while rents have moved to $3200/mo

Where can we find stats on this? Lots of claims in this thread feel good but don't point to number-sources. I do know a few retirees who rent-out the home they raised their family in and live in a new primary. But my town also has some

Solar also seems to be making leaps. Folk in my area replaced panels on their 15yr old install. I didn't get hard metrics from them but, they said it's worth it. Got some state provided rebate too.

The things that replace the mines provide jobs too. What if we compare the count, wage and type of labor? It's not like one has jobs and the other has zero.

Sure (and me as well) but, design bug? Maybe just different expectations of the user. On that point, some heavy machinery took years before adding safety guards (some even required legislation before improving safety)

Lots of things looks like a design bug today but were a prudent choice for the environment at the time. Like when I have an electrician at me house. Says the old way was dumb... but that was fully up to code in 1954. Time makes fools of us

Well, these are like other regulations too. Some incumbent gets in, lobbies, makes laws and pulls the ladder up behind them. Similar to how cannabis rolled out in USA. Now many places require single-use RFID from the sole provider. Get in a
