Still, the important takeaway for webapp developers is never to rely on just one form of protection. Add timestamp checks, honeypots, etc, in addition to captcha and use them appropriately for your application.

LOL I think we both want the same thing. I'm just being realistic. I highly doubt you'll get all the data you really want, this year or next. Federal agencies have a hard time releasing data quickly. Too many checks and balances, too many

I think this is more about changing the mindset of the typical workers at the federal agencies (hundreds of thousands of whom are not doing IT related tasks as their primary function). Those of us who work for these agencies as programmers

As a programmer/contractor for DHS, I'd love to hear what you all think would be a useful set of APIs for DHS to make public. It's all fine and dandy to say 'oh yeah we have an API' but it needs to be something useful. So what would you wa

"use the most apropriate tool for the job" is a hard place to get to, as it requires a combination of experience and critical thinking. If they want to make something to make new programmers write better programs, by all means!

I think the problem is the original link doesn't really go to the beginning or the 'home', as it were. Here's the start: https://www.economist.com/debate/overview/225 then it starts to make sense IMO. in the end, yes, a bit of a usability

tangentially @ "isn't this like the post-office opening all your mail"... Iran does exactly this. When my grandmom used to send stuff here from Iran, sometimes the letter or package got to the US already shredded open and in a plastic bag

For one, the default app is horrible at browsing podcasts. Positively awful; can't see the full title of the individual podcasts, in any view; can't see all my synced podcasts in a single view; and as far as I know I can't browse other podc

Honestly, I've found the best approach is to learn another art form. Lots of devs get into photography, for example. Through that I think you gain an "eye for design", so to speak.

I think one potential answer to this is the ability for mobile/tablet apps to embed a browser inside the app. So you see this already with the twitter app on the ipad, when you click a link, it opens a browser in-app. The app makers don't

I don't think buying COTS or GOTS actually saves the government money in the long term. I dont have actual facts to back this claim of course, but it's just from many years of experience in this scene. Many times the requirements of an agen

Probably better described as appropriations by the federal government for 'homeland security', which is mostly DHS, but also several other Departments and agencies.

Bravo.. If you read between the lines they basically ignored outdated/inappropriate processes/bueracracy to provide a service to the end user. And by not adhering to those rules they indeed saved taxpayer dollars. Glad they pushed through
