I didn't know that. That really cool. I didn't get to experience it because I am quite a happy customer. (Knock on wood and don't publicly cross them huh) What was up with the Altra? I have a free instance (4 cores) on oracle

On most servers there's a setup fee so people are not very likely to run without paying. (I know it doesn't exist in auction and they do have no-fee specials sometimes)

I don't particularly care for content in my own language. YouTube would be such a nice language learning resource if it allowed search by language though. There's actually another problem. There are how many videos on YouTube? Mil

"not creating a net negative". Blog author doesn't want to commit to anything. What's the point if they're not going to make a point?

Most corporate blogs are less than useless. Clickbait titles are getting more and more prevalent too. "We're not sustainable" from yesterday is another example.

I was talking about devices mostly. The worst offender I know of is google and Android. I think they just settled of court in a similar matter.

Sounds like google maps, am i right? Almost any other navigation product will do a combination of zooming in and displaying actual road signs with clearly marked intersections etc. Maps is useless without also turning on voice.

The accept button is a one time deal. You click it and never hear about it again. Deny on the other hand causes the same question to come up again and again. They want you either to get fed up and accept it or accidentally accept it.

How about search by language? At least don't translate my query if I am already entering it in a foreign language.

If you have services with even a few users you should set up LDAP (openldap is fine) and then experiment with it. LDAP is pretty old and very well supported overall. At one point I configured ldap for postfix virtual hosting. I chose LDAP r

I've had some back and forth with the project author before. Pretty decent guy. I don't think he'd do anything maliciously. Perhaps they didn't actually file github issues but let him know another way?

Google repeatedly sends the 2fa to my phone even though I have an authenticator app set up for it. Even if I use the app, it still asks me to authenticate their own thing on my phone. So I just gave up and use that all the time now.

If I didn't understand I'd be grateful if you could explain it. As far as I know that file does not get referenced for the users in an external directory server. That's how the systems scale without needing to put the users i

This sounds like a completely unrelated thing and you are not constrained by the plain text password/shadow file for scale. NIS existed for many decades. You can even use Active Directory (or samba) for authentication and user manageme

I don't get it. When was shell involved with using Apache basic passwords or LDAP authentication? It requires extensive extra steps (pam modules etc) to plug these things into a unix system for authentication purposes. Also that would

Doesn't switching to Wayland also implicitly mean losing any input system other than libinput? Like Wayland libinput also does not currently have feature parity with the other input configuration tools that are available for X.

As far as I know there is no set amount of time that automatically makes a nonresident alien a resident. The company you work for has to sponsor your green card like they do the H1B.

In my experience closed issues are usually closed with an associated PR and the issue it fixes gets merged into main/master. I've never actually seen a project only close issues when they make a release. Rather they make a new rel

I am really glad the era of the infuriating parrot line of "If you're not paying for it, you're the product" is coming to an end. People try to justify everything they do and this is one the worst of them. Some even seem

I believe all mainstream TLDs have this feature. In the past it used to be a nonissue when you renewed the domain in the grace period. Nowadays you just pay more but it still works. Don't do it with a very desirable domain name though.

Free certs is also just a one line "email myemail@example.com". This applies to all sites and everything is auto managed. It also has a nice one line shortcut directive which applies to the vast majority of php sites out there.

On Windows 10 with IE and Edge removed I ran into a situation where Windows update stopped working. The only fix I could find was to install Edge then try the updates again, which worked.
