Cheney on the MTA and its various implementations (like Chicken Scheme [0]) have been allocating objects on the stack for ages. Would like to know how this compares. [0] https://www.more-magic.net/posts/internals-gc.htm

Why do you think NumPy, SciPy, etc are so popular? Why don't people use C/C++/Fortran instead? It's because LoC and readability and maintainability matters. Teaching Linear Algebra using NumPy isn't equivalent to te

Turns out there IS a third party optimizing static compiler for Python: https://github.com/Nuitka/Nuitka Also, a 4.4 times boost in case of pypy is enormous. It translates to 4x less energy, 4x less resources to manage

Scheme is highly dynamic and can be compiled to surprisngly small and fast binaries. SBCL can produce blazing fast (though not small) binaries for highly dynamic Common Lisp programs. The claim that Python is slow because of its nature rath

That documentation does not explain what prompted the creation of another tool when leiningen was already (and still is to a large extent) the de-facto deps/build tool.

I love Clojure. I also believe that tools.deps is a step in the wrong direction, fragmenting an already small community and forcing all tools to support yet another dependency/build system. Leiningen is super powerful, and it was never

I have been playing exclusively on Wine + Mac for a long time now. It takes some minor fiddling, but works for the most part.

Python is orders of magnitude slower than JS, though. It has the same problems, but doesn't even try solving most. PyPy would be a better VM to compare against.

It is truly amazing that SBCL is so stable and fast without much (if any) Big Co. support! Also, Portacle [1] is a SBCL + (Emacs based) IDE distro that's super easy to setup and use. [1] https://portacle.github.io
