You bought a new computer because of a fan error?! You could have got a new fan with next day delivery (so Tuesday in your case) for a hell of a lot less than a new computer and all the time it took you to get OS X setup how you want. Or do

Yeah Fx is annoying with its inconsistent defaults between platforms. The one you mention is because browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll is set to true on Windows but False on Linux. Why I have no idea!

Congratulations to all those past and present involved with Arch. Over the past few years Arch has become my favourite personal distro due to how much control it gives me over my system without being _too_ complicated. Here is to another am

Yeah 2010 was quite painful compared to how fast VS08 was. VS11 is not back to VS08 speeds but it is a good improvement over 2010 thank god. The big problem now is this new UI. I find it much harder on my eyes than previous versions. I didn

Thanks for the reply. Have you tried any other distros on it? Specifically I am interested in Arch. Thanks.

Would you mind sharing some information on your setup? What make/model laptop do you have and what distro are you using? Did you have to do anything specific to get the power management to work properly? Cheers

Perhaps I am missing something obvious here (very possible as I do not work with audio decoding) but the demo at http://codecs.ofmlabs.org/ appears to playback the MP3 (not tested the ALAC file yet) too quickly. The site reports the MP3 a

I use vanilla Eclipse on a 3 year old Dell Studio laptop (2.53Ghz C2D, 4GB RAM, 2x320GB 7200RPM HDD, AMD Mobility Radeon 3650 HD, Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64) and it runs perfectly smooth. Just as smooth as in Notch's video. I have no idea w

Looks ok, not sure why I would want to use this over GCal, it needs to be made a little prettier, it looks like a generic Gnome app at the moment, you need some rounded buttons and stuff :P (but seriously it does need to be made a little pr

I think this is a good thing. I tried Beta 6 just a few hours a go and it is full of issues that stopped me getting back to a workable state (using Firefox Sync). Reverted to 3 and all is good again. They still have some kinks to iron out I

I have off-site backups of the very important things (personal documents, wedding pictures, etc.) at my mothers house (in their safe) and my safety deposit box with my bank. My bank is only 15 minutes away so adding to it isn't a problem

BetaNews has gone downhill year on year in quality. I remember reading it back in 2000 and it was a decent site but now it just has these poorly written FUD "stories" about nothing of any real value.

To play devil's advocate here do you have any evidence that Google's model generates higher return, click thru or revenue? To me it seems like Facebook is the best long term business model. Slowly, as you and your friends update every bit o

God I really hate this whole "following" bullshit. They turned Digg into the bastard child of Digg V3 and Twitter. Never gonna use it now.
