Thanks, I'll keep from recommending Kagi in the future.

Have you tried Kagi yet? It's pretty popular among HN folks, and I find it easily worth the price.

Not every week, more like a couple of times a year when YouTube makes some breaking changes. Personally I take these periods as healthy time off from YouTube, so I'm no longer even annoyed by them.

> An espresso machine and a grinder will quickly pay for themselves. Or a pour over filter (like Kalita Wave or Hario V60) plus a grinder. That's a cheaper setup to start, and an easy way to get a big mug of great coffee.

I would not assume denseness -- many/most languages do not have this habit of referring to the capital. So it can easily sound weird if you aren't that immersed in English news and discussions.

Different folks are interested in different niches. I don't know this author either. I would know many names from other subfields, though. I once went to a meetup where the host introduced the speaker with "he needs no introductio

It is a great game, and the Vox Populi mod has given it so much more life. VP has hands down the best AI that the Civ series has ever seen. My "wow" moment was when the enemy parachuted to my hinterlands to pillage my critical res

Zoom calls work fine in the browser. They first make it look like you need the native client, but there's some dance you need to make to get the web link. Reload, wait, spin in your chair, something like that. Of course I would never c

I gave up on the native Zoom client on Linux right away, it was completely broken. It worked well enough on a browser to get through the project though. Same with Teams, the video calls work fine on a browser. You just can't use any ba

Sadly, Europe isn't one entity and the interest wanes the further the countries are. Anyone neighboring Russia is, predictably, helping a lot while also arming themselves. Central Europe somewhat less, and the Mediterranean countries s

Not the parent, but getting US to quit NATO won't help his European ambitions. Russia is weak now, and has solidified the European hostility for years to come.

I've been reading about Spotify pushing generated music but haven't seen that myself so I'm interested to know in what context it happens. Is it certain music styles? Spotify's own playlists? That smart shuffle feature?

No, I don't think that's a fair way to put it. People regularly report having quite old Arch installs without stability issues. And people also regularly advice Linux newcomers not to pick Arch. If you check their news section, it

That's exactly how it's supposed to work: Arch expects you to check the notes on their news section always before you update. The NVIDIA driver issue and solution was posted on Dec 20th. I'm not saying I'm reading these

I feel there's also a fundamental difference in tinkering to get something working vs. tinkering to remove user-hostile features. In the first one the goals of the OS and user are aligned, in the second one not.

Yes, I've had an early random pattern robovac and a newer LIDAR equipped one. Both worked well enough, the LIDAR device obviously much better though. And yes, I keep the floors free of cables and clutter when it's vacuuming time.
