Fifth Third Bank in the USA has check deposit software for business users which requires IE with ActiveX, .NET activation, and several security settings laxed in order to work. I've heard no mumblings of it being updated any time soon.

Annoyingly, if you want to get a let's encrypt cert you have to serve http. Back when I was manually purchasing & installing certs I didn't even listen on 80 for several services. (Exception being if you use the dns challenge)

Nothing stops them from using a unique passphrase. I am subjected to the same password requirements and use a unique passphrase every time. I see harvested passwords as a larger threat than bruteforcing, so some kind of expiry is important.
