http://www.talkorigins.org/ - this is a great resource on evolution. It is a polemical site, yes, but also a great place to learn about evolution even if you aren't in an argument with creationists.

About the cars: http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/tra_mot_veh-transportation... Yes, America is on top. Plus the article doesn't say what kind of cars the Americans drive and what kind of cars Europeans do.

Majority-minority tensions? Is this an euphemism for racism and xenophobia? My observation is that most of us Europeans are pretty racist and xenophobic and big hypocrites about it too. Now, while I will not erase the above, keep in mind th

A quick question about c++ in std::cout << "Whoopee." << std::endl; is std::endl putting a newline char after "Whoopee. "? Anyway in the C example it could have been written puts("Whoopee."); instead of printf("Whoopee. \n")

Generally when you optimize for less cycles, you use more memory, and vice versa, and as far I know gcc doesn't spare memory in the name of performance. Different focus, perhaps? Anyway, what I wrote was purely anecdotal, so if anyone posts

Kernighan of K&R didn't invent C. Only the "R", Ritchie did. They wrote a good book together thought.

My take is that it is only a matter of time before all entertainment content is legally freely distributable. And the music and movie industry know it they are trying to make as much money as possible the traditional way + DRM style technol

There are some lazy and irresponsible journalists out there. Speedy delivery and hype is often more important than correctness. In my country we have an old saying "If the papers say that your sister is a whore, good luck proving you don't

There once was a browser called Netscape 4? Remember what happened to it? I think Firefox could be better off as an application platform. Let the users decide what they want, make it easy to get and keep the browser slim.

I remember Encarta to be inaccurate and having few listed sources. I rather see a messy and full of controversy wikipedia article than a short and oversimplified - it gives you a wrong impression on sensitive and complex issues.

How about the X11 "fixed" font and my favorite - "terminus"? Fixed, by the way is the font you see when you start xterm in most environments. Hold Ctrl and the RMB while the mouse cursor is in a xterm window and you can see it in different

Commands don't need to be obscenely cryptic and if they get too long you can easily teach autocompletion. If you have basic verbal skills, then you know stuff like context, so there should be no problem with the "variable feedback". I used

You have to be pretty relaxed to be good at Quake for example - otherwise you cannot get into "the zone" and think clearly (there IS actually room for thought in Quake).

I see FPS games as an opportunity to take my self-righteous bastard alter-ego for a walk. If I don't take him often enough through art I might actually be kinda confused in real-life situations. Violent art has its purpose, deal with it.

Yep, me too. The other reason for having lots of pages is to make room for annoying flash ads. I usually click the "print article" or equivalent link - there usually is no pagination there.
