This is a fundamental part of Make. If it's news to anybody, PLEASE go read the manual. Otherwise we will keep getting more and more new systems that supposedly improve Make, written by and for people who never bothered to learn how to

That is simply not true. Maybe the latest and hipsteriest devices will all have those features, but the market is vast and caters to all sorts of humans and price points. You just have to care enough to make that choice as a consumer.

$20 is way too expensive for these. Here's the same thing for half the price: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Newsky-TV28T-v2-USB-DVB-T-RTL-SDR-Re...

Hmmm? "Cекрет" is a noun. "Cекретно" is an adverb. Why is "Cекрет" inappropriate here?

So some guy complains that a code path in libc is slow, but refuses to actually do anything to fix it. What's noteworthy here? Besides, this particular complaint is 7 years old. Poster: is this still an issue?

Well, not having to build your own cross-compilers is a HUGE reason to run Debian. Other distros probably have packages too in any case.

Heh? Debian cross toolchains work fine: https://packages.debian.org/sid/gcc-4.9-arm-linux-gnueabi for armel and https://packages.debian.org/sid/gcc-4.9-arm-linux-gnueabihf for armhf

True. You're unlikely to be using anything that's in 4.1 but not in 3.82, however. I wish the remake stuff would get merged into the main tree, but there're probably political issues there, or something.

A general comment on debugging GNU Make: there's a fork ( http://bashdb.sourceforge.net/remake/ ) that adds interactive debugging facilities to GNU Make. Since this is a fork and not a reimplementation, it's 10

Sigh. As far as I can tell ninja is primarily used as a cmake backend. Mostly because the people who wrote cmake never learned to write Makefiles and as a result using ninja with cmake is much faster.

FreeBSD will not help him since "linux" is not his problem at all. If he didn't run all the fancy things, and did what you do, then his problems would be somewhere between non-existent and clearly-debuggable.

In zsh, you can use =() instead of <() to slurp all the data into a temporary file first to deal with this issue. Perhaps bash has this also.

diff -y is side-by-side. As far as I know colordiff does per-line coloring, while icdiff seems to have finer granularity. This dude really should have patched colordiff, though. Or just used emacs.
