You do need an Expo account to create a standalone app. If you want to create an app for the App or Play Stores yourself (i.e. without an account), then you'll need Xcode and/or Android Studio.

I'm very sensitive to the concerns you've raised in this thread. I've discussed these issues quite a lot, and ultimately decided that it's better to provide a net win to the React Native tooling ecosystem, and try to smo

Babel is on by default in the React Native packager, which is indeed used under the hood by both CRNA and Expo's devtools. The template projects include a .babelrc file. The `registerRootComponent` function is essentially a facade to `

It does. There's an option to include the sdk in the ejected app, but it's not the default.

Hi! Sorry you ran into problems. Was this just using the basic starter project? If you want to include some platform information in a GitHub issue I'd love to look into this.

Sorry for piling on! This is definitely something we could be clearer on in the docs.

Which build server? If you have an Expo account you can create a "standalone app" with our service, but that's not a part of CRNA's workflow and it's certainly not required to use this tool.

Hi! Expo is definitely a private entity, but the tools used by CRNA are also definitely open source: https://github.com/exponent/exponent https://github.com/exponent/exponent-sdk https:/

Probably not. One of the biggest advantages of CRNA is that we built it from the ground up to not require integrating with Expo's accounts or services. If you've already opted-in to those services, then you're probably gettin

The biggest advantages of CRNA right now are: * Doesn't require an Expo account * Faster to get started than using XDE * Smooth 'eject' integration with react-native-cli, if you know that you're eventually going to need

Hi! I wrote a bunch of the code for CRNA (although it obviously builds on a lot of great work from Facebook and Expo people). Happy to answer questions. I'll be doing a brief demo during my lightning talk at ReactConf -- livestreamed a

Webkit is the only acceptable browser engine on iOS. Firefox and Chrome both use webkit on iOS.

I am betting that there are Chrome devs who feel that Firefox didn't deprecated NPAPI quickly enough - it was something like two and a half years ago when Chrome did the same.

There are definitely areas where rust and python are closer in abstraction level than you might initially think. For example, rust's iterator trait enables things which are remarkably powerful when compared against python comprehension

Hey! Super useful, thanks. Quick question: news.ycombinator.com (as an example) is listed in the README as a potentially affected site, but I don't see it in the raw dump that I've downloaded. Am I crazy?

A little less than a year ago I worked on a bioinformatics project in rust, and I think it came out very well. My perception was that bio is a field where most practitioners rely on high speed code written by someone else that can be called

Yep! I just haven't explored the options much since tokio matured more (I was at the hack night last fall for it and was very excited, but haven't tried it in the last couple of months) or since rocket was announced.

I wouldn't describe any of the issues I've had as major. There have been several papercuts (some of which are resolved by the current release), and I'm honestly not a huge fan of the iron library that I've used. I thin

This is pretty major. In anticipation of this release, I was able to remove all nightly feature flags from a smallish web backend which makes heavy use of type-driven codegen (serde and diesel). Really, truly, utterly fantastic to have sta

Rust uses https://github.com/rust-community/bors which maintains a linear queue of PRs which can only land after being rebased onto the commits before the PR and subsequently passing tests.
