Both forms are pretty strict, but yeah, the French gets a little less leeway. He is respecting the English rules, while using some chic slant rhymes. I know English is abab cdcd efef gg --- am I right in remembering French as abba abba cc

I clicked the link with my spine pre-cringed, ready for cheesy hacker poetry. Instead I found a lovingly crafted epitaph in stylish, uninterrupted verse. I immediately looked to see the other poetry. I was shocked that there were only two o

"Surprizingly fast and mind-blowingly accurate"? I would not, in a million years, describe the flight in that video using those words. I'm glad the research is being done, but there's no reason to sensationalize something that's clearly p

I've been living on $6000 a year for the past five years. Next year, I intend to spend 10 months in New Zealand on <$8000, including travel, room, and board. It's very doable. I rent a very nice room in a pleasant suburb. I eat well, if

This is a favorite of mine, though I know it as "Eat Poo You Cat". A narrower marker or a real color selector would both be nice. The server appears to be down now, though.

There was a paper here on HN a few months back that compared averaged faces to faces with unchanged bone structure but smoothed skin; the differences in rated attractiveness were apparently negligible (and average faces with bad skin faired

Ah. So can you name a contribution Leonardo had that, like Einstein or Newton, is still relevant today? Because he was working from scratch, much of what he did was utterly wrong. His work on anatomy is astonishing, and the drawings beautif

To be crude, this is bullshit. I am not a genius by any means whatsoever. I am 23. I have a degree in studio art, and I'm listed as a coauthor (along with small teams) on papers in machine learning AND biochemistry. It is 10,000 times EAS

This is an excellent suggestion --- though anyone who uses this method should be prepared to discover, sometimes, that they not only have no motivation to complete the given task, but also that the task does not lead in any clear way to w

Read the abstract of the paper; it's a much clearer summary than this article, which ignores the second control condition of "surety of commitment." http://psycnet.apa.org/journals/psp/94/2/183/

This contains many questions that leave me asking "but why would you do that?" A hash table for 1,000,000 entries with only 128 buckets? A page size of 32 bytes? Tests are learning experiences, and should suggest real, worthy solutions.

The disclaimer at the bottom suggests to me that perhaps there is a second part of the puzzle, which occurs after finding the "answer key" and signing an NDA. So I'm pretty sure no one will pick up $10K for solving a linear system.

It's probably important to remember that money is not the only way to pay people --- I work at a job with low pay, but completely flexible hours, and for me, that benefit is worth twice the salary.

Searching for "the black team ibm -mustaches -infamous" on google returns (nearly) nothing. I find it astonishing that there is no record of such a team that doesn't mention mustache twirling. I suspect that some hacker wanted a version of

Yes, if you run through the memorized list once a day, in a few weeks you can free up that parrticular palace for other work and keep the memory --- you've memorized by rote. As for scale, many memory workers use a linked list as well as th
