Yes, I love the art too, capturing the era of that design style very well. I'm feeling nostalgic for my old Classic MacOS (I have a MacOS 9.2 hard disk sat here waiting for me to buy a replacement machine).

I like your idea and I'd not heard of CoprocessorJS. If I had only a serial port for networking (e.g. the Mac Classic I wish I'd never parted with), I'd be tempted to emulate tail -f on the Mac side sending to the filesystem

I agree. But I'm old and pedantic for whom the word Radio means on-air broadcasting. I love podcasts and often think, wow, these would make awesome broadcasts. Unfortunately, in the UK at least, VHF FM is, in my opinion, commercial dri

I had a recurring dream for a few years after I'd graduated that I still had to sit my final year! The dream was so real one time that I woke in a panic and check my certificates to make sure! I studied in my thirtees as it was somethi

Very good. I've never had to use COBOL in anger in my career. I do have fond memories of a little DBASE work and building TUI screens that bind to data/procedures was really easy and productive. Geez, I wish it was as easy to buil

Well its you in that you have a preference for colour and that's fine. Colour has an emotional response of its own - which is why set design, lighting temperatures and colourists are a thing. Colour theory is of course the basis of thi

Thanks for this link. I love smalltalk and had an opportunity to use a commercial implementation (Cincom Smalltalk) whilst working in biodiversity information. I found the development environment to be really productive - esp. during my sel

I fully understand your point. I didn't find the comment rude or annoying personally. But there is a reality in that comment - my own brother pretty much echoed those words, calling me out for asking him to look at the data. Got pretty

I'm 64 and still coding strong (UK NHS) and I'm planning to delay retirement (officially next year) for another couple of years. I've been a full time professional in computing since 1996. I've only experienced a bit of

Likewise. Lovelock shaped my approach to science as he was an independent worker in his field and that resonated with me when I read for my own science degree. I find Gaia compelling and beautiful. Sad day. BBC documentary; https:/&#

Similar for me but on BBC-B Micro. Rose tinted memories perhaps. And replication of that experience now would be a very interesting exercise in patience and acceptance for me. Indeed simpler times. Could I personally go back? As much as tec

XOJO? It's quite a feature rich OO BASIC with VB like GUI tools IMHO. Can compile for various platforms or generates HTML. I used it a bit in work to create an internal web app (it uses Bootstrap under the hood for that target). I foun

You are not alone [1]. My emotional response to this image made my spine tingle and was almost tearful. Just trying to appreciate what I'm looking at will take me some time, appreciating all of the hard work and raw science that went i

Sure, it's possible but there are plenty of gaps where its random noise - but even a very very weak signal would be swamped with noise if the radio is in FM mode. Pure radio static is the sound of the universe! Very frequency dependent

Yes, but you are effectively turning your box into a single user system. And that's fine if you are happy to work that way, but the origins of the directory structure is of course in multiuser UNIX. As a sysadmin, I would not want my &

Apologies if this is not allowed on HN, but there is Topspeed Modula-2 at this link. I think it's fully abandoned, but I'm still a bit uncomfortable with the ethics of sites like this. https://vetusware.com/downloa

Totally reductionist on my part, but when you've written assembly by hand you realise that loops and jumps cannot ever go away regardless of the higher level abstractions. At least I'm not aware of any CPUs that are not imperative

On first glance there are features in Postico 2 that I'd find useful - having SQL queries organised in the UI rather than on the filesystem for one. I'm a daily TablePlus user and very happy with it so I'd need to find real a
