Can't do that either. They give you their laptops without access to install extra things unless you call someone from their helpdesk.

I wish I could but several clients only use Windows computers so I have to use the Linux subsystem to make my dev environment a bit more bearable.

Started to learn Go this month. Turns out if you have been programming for a while you just need to jump into coding challenges and surf the documentation. No need to read giant books or 10 hr courses to get started. I've really enjoye

Writing was one of my goals for 2019. Couldn't write a single piece. A mix of impostor syndrome and lack of discipline I guess. Sometimes I get nice ideas about something to write and then when I start typing I think, 'this is jus

I think that 200 status code for everything is such a bad practice. I'm surprise the amount of people here that are OK with that.

Isn't that what design patterns are? you have books for OO design patterns, enterprise patterns, even microservices patterns, with code examples and everything. Most of them go far beyond the overall architecture.

That's funny. That same situation (not understanding that git and github are different things) has happened to me a couple of times but with older engineers.

I used to be pretty skeptic about postman before. Now in my latest project is the common ground everyone uses to test the APIs. It has pretty good features, like pre-request scripts for authorization and also environment management. So far

The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday. I've been reading 1 meditation per day so I'm not done yet but I would say out of every 5 I read I find at least one really valuable lesson that makes me rethink a lot.

Go to a cost of living calculator and see how much money 350k is in SF compared to other cities. You'll be surprised. I'm not even making 200k a year and I wouldn't move there for less than 350k.

I've been using e-readers since the first Kindle came out. The are totally worth when the docs/books you read fit properly in the screen. They are normally around 6 inches (there are newer brands with bigger screens) so pdf's

There's a bunch of walkability scores for cities in the US online. Austin ranks pretty low for what most people think.

I disagree. Winters can get very cold here in Austin. Also is impossible to get around without a car even if you live downtown. Is not a walkable city.

I've been using the North Face resistor[1] for about two years. Pros: - Sturdy and great quality - A lot of space - Comes with a charger - Nice design Cons - Expensive - I don't think it fits well under the seat when you take it w

Same in Austin. Don't go there if you are looking for a walkable place. I can't even take my dog for a walk to a nice place.
