There are a few things that need to be acceptable for this kind of behaviors, IMO: 1. The enginner needs to produce a certain level of acceptable quality and in timely manner. 2. The engineer wants to participate in activities that ensures

I couldn't find the architectural diagram on how do you scale this across N nodes, can you elaborate on that? Is it similar to Postgres XL or Citus?

These questions aren't that bad. There's even architecture design questions (under System Design). Looks like a fun bedtime reading material to me. I'd say read this kind of stuff on regular days, not one night before intervi

It's well within reason and capabilities for rust community to write libcurl and curl CLI libraries. The community should do it, spend a couple of years stabilizing, and then spread the words to others.

Just like everything else, moderation is key. * err, i, req, resp are so common in a lot of Go codebase that they become a convention themselves. So it's not that hard to read. Another example: Javascript's function(e) {} * If a n

I don't think GOPATH as $HOME is a common thing (even back then). A lot more people uses $HOME/go as GOPATH. So much so that $HOME/go is the default in Go 1.8.

Nope, not annoyed at all 1. I know precisely where a package is coming from. 2. When vendored, I know precisely in which directory a package is stored. 3. I actually want to know if a random no-name library is introduced by developers, so I

I think the back story here is that they are running MySQL as sharded key-value storage. And at 2300 instances, it makes sense that there would be a few of them dying at any given time. With this setup, using MySQL is pretty much arbitrary,

I solved channel without panic by doing channel bookkeeping in the main() entry point. Wholeheartedly agree with you that channel panics a little too easily.

Wrapper functions are not the same as full blown ORM. For every heavily used ORM features, there's an opportunity to fall into a trap, e.g N+1, because the surface area of an ORM is wide. In contrast, wrapper functions are low cost, ea

I kept hearing that code quality at Cisco is poor, so perhaps this is an opportunity to clean house and pivot? Not all layoffs are bad, and the good engineers most likely jumped ship already.

Totally not weird at all. Users need very compelling reason to switch off any kind of platform. And usually one of the compelling reason is better performance. The reception towards Python 3 would have been very different had it launched wi
