Just like with politics, you see large numbers of people dividing up into two different camps. Pretty soon every statement that raises a legitimate concern about AI will be seen as 'hating AI' and every observation about how AI he

On the graph, you can clearly see the seasonal demand for power during the summer months as air conditioning kicks in. The electricity production for gas mimics this as well each year. But the solar output does not seem to have a spike each

GPUs have been in high demand since cryptocurrency became a thing? Are you saying that something built for AI can't be used for other workloads?

Just because a data center is way outside your neighborhood; doesn't mean it can't have a direct impact on you personally. Electrical and water resources used can affect your utility bills. But there is also some hype about just h

What makes a data center an 'AI data center' vs other kinds? I am sure that certain workloads are better suited for a particular server rack vs another; but can't a data center built for other computing needs also do AI and v

I remember playing Digger on my IBM PC clone sold by AT&T (6300) back in 1987 or 1988. I also remember that the game speed was set to some factor of the computer's clock speed. When I later tried to run the same game after I upgrad

There are apparently 20+ million of them who entered the U.S. illegally, along with millions more who think it is a crime to deport them (even the criminals).

It is so nearly impossible, that somewhere between a half million and a million people have done it every year for the past few decades (including last year).

The whole immigration argument basically boils down to two schools of thought. 1) Those who believe that every human born on this planet has a basic right to move to and live in, any country that they want. 2) Those who believe that the peo

What? For the record, I am not saying that you shouldn't ever use AI. Plenty of good programmers use it as a tool to boost their productivity or to validate things. But if you are using AI to write all your code, I think you are missin

Even if you find a vocation that you generally enjoy, it doesn't mean that you will enjoy every part of it. I love to program, but there have been a number of jobs and tasks during my career that I definitely did not like. I think this

I don't think he meant that you should enjoy your vocation more than your vacation. But life is very different if you actually enjoy going to work each day, rather than dreading it.

I guess some people only enjoy the destination and don't care how they got there. These people seem to enjoy AI more than the people who want to enjoy the journey along the way.

Social Security tax is the only tax that has a limit. Medicare tax applies to all wages and high earners even pay an extra percentage. SS tax has a limit because benefits are also limited. It is a forced retirement plan where if you live lo

It's been decades since I read the Asimov book. I vaguely remember the details. Luckily AI gave me a quick summary to refresh my memory.

Wow. I knew that astronomers had mapped and measured a large number of stars in our galaxy; but I had no idea that the number was close to 2 billion.

As I understand it, there is no consensus on the size of our solar system. We can measure the orbits of the planets, but it is much harder to measure where the Kuiper Belt or the Oort cloud ends. Estimates on both of those vary greatly.

Almost everyone comes up with an idea during their career, where they think 'this could be really big'. The idea of abandoning the 9 to 5 job to strike out on your own can be strong. There are many stories where a solo entrepreneu

Although the data centers are probably optimized for AI workloads; they can probably be used for all kinds of computing tasks. If AI revenue does not meet projections, the hardware is not going to be unused.

Too many people believe that AI is going to come up with elegant solutions to problems that no one has ever solved before. Maybe someday, but for now it seems to be good at finding a solution that may be hidden away somewhere in stack overf

As a long-time Costco member, I can relate to this story. I don't expect to find everything I need there, but buying the 'staples' there saves money. My biggest complaint has always been the enormous size of perishable items.

When I upgraded my computer a little over a year ago, I got 128GB of DDR5 RAM instead of just 64GB. Glad I did. I also thought about upgrading my gen4 SSD at the same time. It was still meeting all my needs, so I thought if I waited, I coul
