This is only going to increase. At 36 and considered successful I dread every day. I resent and seethe constantly. I've seen numerous healthcare professionals and feel like each have failed. I only bother anymore because it's expe

Great. Waste more time/resources/etc and make products even more fragile than they already are. For what? Some nonsense that will mostly die out as people realize toasters don't need to talk to anything. Awesome. Consumer e

I would be better if it just dresses the link in CSS so you know never to bother clicking in the first place.

This is true. They are already collecting all your data in one place so it'll be easier on China or whoever gets your data next. The government is on it guys. No worries.

Worst case these companies pay some laughable, trivial fine. That's all that will ever happen in the US. Money talks. EVERYTHING else walks.

Meh not really. If there were real repercussions to fucking up lives because you leaked their private data that would be one thing. Zero sympathy for the company as a whole.

Because money. HN will likely play devils advocate but I agree with you. If you enter an arena, I believe you are partly responsible for what happens in that arena.

It's not working. It just rendered. Like the author said, it's mostly just moving the core c++ codebase in then futzing with xcode to get it to build. If you can use *nix you can use OSX. I'm curious about his opinions on OSX

Attacking a bank account is really the only thing that makes a difference. Also, by all means, make an example out of a few of these organizations. Adhere to the law or suffer.

This is a solid list. Would you add or change anything if the goal wasn't necessarily an exit strategy but a lifestyle business? (8 years as a developer if that affects your response)

No job is worth that. Also consider the performance and morale damage from being forced to deal with that at the start of every week. Thanks but no thanks.

I call BS. You can learn from C but in the beginning it's far more important to keep forward momentum. If you don't have something forcing you through the frustrating and boring parts (like school), you're probably going to l

As a veteran in a long line of veterans I grow increasingly disgusted by my country. I'm angry that I feel like I wasted time "defending" something I don't believe in.

To compare disregarding outdated browsers, non-JS users, and the like with genuinely disabled people is completely asinine. "Fuck this post."

Ditto. I always figured buy.com a site that snapped up the domain in the early days and either was just a shopping portal, reseller or affiliate site. Maybe this was due to poor marketing on Buy.com's part?

This was mostly a joking jab and honestly not as true today as it used to be. I spent a lot of years fighting just to get a gfx or network card working with any distro but that was honestly a long time ago. Linux has come a long way. I'll a

I get so tired of hearing people trot out the humble bundle example. Linux has historically been mostly ignored by game devs. Of course linux users are going to (initially) earnestly support developers in the hope that more games/devs will

I kept thinking if her emails were as batshit crazy as the author states, why not just post all of them online. Buy a domain and make a big public display of what a whackjob this person is. Allow her to publicly hang herself. I suspect, as
