Laptops have really gone to hell in the past few years. IMO the only sane laptop choices remaining are Framework and Apple. Every other vendor is mess, especially when it comes to properly sleeping when closing the lid.

How were you planning to run podman compose without an init process running as root?

I prefer quadlet for 2 reasons: 1. Podman is simpler than Docker. There is no long-running daemon. Rootless is default. 2. Quadlets can be managed as systemd services, giving me the same tools to manage and view logs for system daemons and

Yeah, I tried the 4o models and they severely mispronounced common words and read numbers incorrectly (eg reading 16000 as 1600)

It was never gonna be cheaper, hardware costs alone are more expensive. It's about control over your data and a superior experience.

You can get cheap Blue Ray DVDs, but you gotta keep an eye out for deals. Set up a bot to watch for stuff you like.

Ripping DVDs is pretty easy these days, and you can buy used for good deals. This is of course more expensive, since you have to buy a large storage drive, a disc reader and discs. But you have more control and rights with physical media th

I will say there is a easily noticeable jump in build quality from a $300 Orient or Seiko to something like a Tudor Black Bay, or even some of the microbrands in the 2-4k range. You can especially feel it by rotating the bezel and feeling t

Originally Bond wore a Submariner, which wasn't a wealth signal at a time- it wasn't a _cheap_ watch, but also not the choice of a wealthy person. The Submariner was originally a tool watch, used by naval infantry. The modern equi
