Good point, I was thinking more along the lines of "heads-up" right as a walk out the door and since this project was just for my own usage I didn't scrutinize the readme copy.

I found developing in the kindle pretty nice and if you want a quick start there is a pre-compiled python for it and golang can compile directly to the arm architecture that it uses.

This isn't just an image, mostly b/c I initially wanted to do everything on the device (and it uses a weird image encoding) but interacting with Google api's in Rust was a pin (at the time).

I would recommend a paperwhite since you can use the real time clock to enter deep sleep and run the device off battery. Its the only complaint I have with my current device.

This is my project, was very happy to see it suddenly on the front page. I've been using it for over a year and its consistently been useful if anyone is on the fence about building one.

Do you mean it doesn't automatically fetch album art? It does serve it to the client in my experience.

Been using it for about 6 months running on a PI. Very happy with it and I just opened a PR to add rating support(which was the only thing I wanted that it lacked).

This test does not simulate actual product recycling where the plastic is exposed to sunlight and liquids. Its environmental iterations that cause the degradation. Interesting findings though.

Recycling plastic is hard because it will be degraded to various levels, will be of different plastic types, will be dirty, will have custom additives, etc. If you are interested in plastic recycling: https://preciousplastic.com&

A paperwhite is a good option since you can use the RTC to enter deep sleep and run one of these off battery. I did it with a kindle 4 personally(but couldn't use RTC) and the code is available: https://github.com/david

Depends on your usage but terminal.app is quite a bit slower then iterm2's metal renderer or Alacritty (probably kitty as well but I haven't used it).

Interesting project, but if you have an old kindle / kobo that is not being used they make a good development platform with similar hardware. The mobileread forums will get you started.

I built one of these with a kindle + rust - https://github.com/davidhampgonsalves/life-dashboard The version of the e-reader is important if you want to access deep sleep / RTC for lower power usage.
