8Gb. Fuck off no chance. Not in a world of everyone shipping fat browsers with everything. Edit: everything my kids use in their educational side is browser based or thick web apps. This is going to suck. We shouldn't be here and 8Gb s

This is not the case. We had to double staff count going from three cages to AWS. And AWS was a lot more expensive. And now we're stuck. On top of that no one really knows what the fuck they are doing in AWS anyway.

Are you sure yours isn't broken? My daughter has an M4 and she does hefty biochem stuff on it. No beachballing or anything. Same with my M4 Pro. Also airpods move instantly here. No issues.

The last 3 dells at work, all high end precision/pro max machines, have lasted 9 months before failing completely. No thanks.

It was always shit. I have seen horror stories going back since the day it came out. Think my favourite was a conceptual flaw. The lightning strike. You need a completely offline backup or you don't have a backup. Edit: using ChronoSyn

Yeah this resonates with me. Every single point. Every time they fuck something I move the workload over to Linux, not out of enthusiasm or any ideological purity but because I need to do some damn work. Add in the current geopolitical shit

Sam Altman being a complete bell end? Who'd have thought it. I hope everyone goes and works for Anthropic and OpenAI collapses. Markets going to be interesting on Monday. This plus a war. Urgh.

God yes that. Our VPN client fell over the other day because the auth popup opens an embedded web browser which throws a javascript error as it's bouncing through our ID provider pages. How the fuck we got there I don't know. Ever

I use vim for everything so I have no idea. My main machine has 16Gb of RAM and I don't think I've ever seen it go over 4Gb and that was when I had a 200gb mmap'ed sparse array.

Every app ships with its own isolated web browser now. That idea needs to die. Back to native apps without bloated toolkits!

Yeah I'm in London so that's what we use here. But a lot of the European transport systems just chuck it through as a single transaction so if you buy three tickets it looks like repeated attempts to transact and is blocked. Athen

Not really. It doesn't just take a single photo of your face. It takes a scan of it i.e. multiple shots. That requires something a little more complicated than a PHP app from the 90s. Yes it's aggressive but you'll have fewer

I've seen that once and you could just enter the booking ID in the boarding pass collection terminals and they scan that QR code instead of the one on the app. This stuff isn't as rigid as they make it out to be.

This is a common problem. I have it everywhere I go when I take my kids on holiday. Particularly ticket machines where you have to buy multiple tickets and can't add more than one to a transaction (Maltese buses are a good one). I don&

The reason the ETA app exists is because the web is a terrible platform for doing this stuff on. The ETA app gives you fast feedback on whether or not photos that you need to provide are any good, handles state, retries, talks to the NFC in
