If you made a HN that was much better, everyone would probably switch. Better design won't do that I'm afraid. I use stylebot on chrome to make it look really nice. Lots of HN folks have made css rules for HN. Just search for them.

http://i.imgur.com/WBNjE.png is an image that shows a big part of the problem. It adds vert and horiz scroll bars. That means some buttons which you may need are hidden. When you scroll down to use the buttons, they just move the page to

I'm using the latest chrome and this website is unusable. For a page designed to give me advice on how to make better web pages, it does about 100% less working than I would expect.

Few questions not necessarily about design so feel free to not upvote. I'm wondering why you're creating this. Who has asked for it? Really, myspace is largely considered a failure and they are actually quite huge in this arena. They have a

I'm not sure why people keep saying this. I'm not reinventing either of these things but I suspect, like the services they each replaced, they too will be replaced with things that look strikingly similar to themselves. For an oversimplifie

That's not a bad solution. But doing things like that should be a last resort. It's just really easy to change the styles on your website to make it more readable. So I'll see if it gets changed. Maybe there's good reason to keep it this wa

I hope asking for upvotes doesn't sink me but I don't have an up-vote ring to keep this post alive. So drop a vote if you don't hate it so I can get some good feedback.

Thanks. It's easy to forget about that stuff when all the images are cached. I'll work on that asap! Does it break the home slide show or was it able to download them fast enough to keep it going reasonably smoothly?

The month of December was good for us. We weren't going to launch until Jan but a chef contacted us and wanted to get started right away. We gave an amazing deal on the first event and sold out. We ultimately had 3 events in Dec which incre

So you're selling icons? How do you plan to compete with all the free icons out there? Gnome alone offers dozens of really nice icon sets. I commonly replace my default icons with more interesting ones and I've never paid for them. Who is y

Thanks for the kudos. It's just two of us. We both do "it all" but if we have a lot to do, we break up and I'll work mostly front end design, js, etc and Matt, my cofounder, will do back-end (django) cause he's way better than I am.

We've heard this a lot and couldn't agree more. Originally we tried to find a market of home cooks that wanted to host events but (fortunately) we couldn't find them which led us to the pros. They were easier to find and they have the added

I hadn't actually heard of that. Very cool concept though. Our software is generic enough that something like this could easily spring up. As in, we don't limit our event to food only, we're interested to see how our users bend the site to
