I don't get why Notion is so popular either, but your complaints about it seem like a skill issue on the part of your managers. I see this a lot too, but in my experience it happens no matter the medium - Google Docs, Figma, Jira, etc.

Only a little bit. I have VS Code configured to emit a small sound when a terminal command fails, or when a debugging breakpoint is hit. I also used to add `; say "tests are done"` to my test command so I could go to another scree

I'm finding it nearly impossible to push for this at my workplace as a senior dev. There's perpetually so much fear around a junior hire not being effective and burning too much of our runway. I want to be part of the solution to

For those not feeling problematic levels of anxiety surrounding code reviews, I still found the sections of Step 4 to be very useful advice in general for how to give and receive code reviews well.

I suck at taking photos in many conventional aspects (bad framing, no posing, bad distance/angle, etc) and I've worked on that, but one thing I still seem to have a knack for is always pressing the capture button at the exact inst

The emotional toll working a front line customer service job takes is unreal. Sure I've had low moments in my career as a programmer, but I don't really feel harmed by those experiences. I worked less than half a year in retail in

My first job involved a lot of web scraping and general data munging in PHP, so we accomplished it with a combination of XPath and regexes. Mostly XPath, with regex getting us through any particularly thorny bits of data we couldn't ea

Yeah I believe it, I just don't know how much of that is up to Qualcomm and how much of it depends on the OEMs for things like peripherals and I/O.

It's hit or miss. Some laptops work flawlessly, others do not. And then there's the gamut of features that not many people use, but maybe it's critical to your use case (like a mixed multi-monitor setup).

I'm just hoping that Linux support on the new Snapdragon ARM laptops is good. I've already completely abandoned Windows but I'm holding out on getting a new laptop because I would prefer not to run MacOS.

I recently bought a laptop and got to go through this (Samsung Galaxy Book4 Pro). It came with Windows installed, as most non-Mac laptops do. I spent the first 2 hours letting Windows Update and the OEM's proprietary firmware downloade

Yeah, but based on the guiding principle of democracy (govt by the will of the people), you'd hope to see them do that immediately instead of waiting years and years to do it when it is most strategically advantageous. I know politics

A similar dynamic bears out in a lot of games. For example, in most RTS games, you win at lower levels by simply out-macroing your opponent. Only when you are on equal footing later do tactics and strategy become important, despite those os

I honestly prefer my low tech cold water bidet at home vs the fancy ones in Japan. The water pressure from those just isn't high enough. The cheapo $15 one I got off Amazon though will blast everything right off.

Mostly conjecture on my part, and an anecdote: for some things, I have very specific and niche tastes that come in the form of things that are difficult to label. Example: rap music and hiphop. For the most part, I don't enjoy it that

As with most PR speak, it (on paper) makes it sound better. "Sunsetting" a service brings to mind these things: beauty, a gentle and gradual fade out, and the inevitability of natural phenomenon. Contrast with "shutting down&
