If you have a spare minute, please pay a visit to the "report issue" button at the bottom. Indeed - hard problem and a messy solution. I have no easy answers.

Which is intentional. ar5iv does not aim to be a live preview service, or replace arXiv. The primary aim is to serve the community with the outputs we have, while we improve the coverage and fidelity of our generator. And yes, using only th

HN can obviously summon the site author (hi!) What I was wondering - and still am - shouldn't it be possible to get to a "Pleasant" justified layout on the web in general? The jagged left-aligned paragraphs are some of the fi

You make it sound as if you write HTML5 by hand when entering content in web pages. Do you have the same complaint for SVG diagrams or HTML tables, which are even worse for writing by hand than MathML? I hope not. The key gain here is that

You ought to consider a name charge seriously, at least for the 3.0 version, in my view. It's hard to estimate how much a name impacts adoption, but it is quite likely people would be reluctant to even try a tool which creates associat

I think the new value-add is based on a combination of: 1) the internet and 2) being further down Moore's Law The increase in both computational power and connectivity has had impact all over the place, but has also transformed sc

If you're using it in daemon mode, it only shells out to boot a conversion server, and only if necessary. From that point on it's sending very basic RESTful requests. I wouldn't recommend using latexml if you're interest

Disclaimer: I'm the author of the wrapper, and a LaTeXML and Authorea developer. Indeed, LaTeXML has been producing great presentation MathML, since before MathJaX was created. But it's also a very different tool and the two proje

Disclosure: I'm the author of the wrapper mentioned here, and a LaTeXML and Authorea developer. In my view, MarkDown is a great kernel for what one could call "structured writing", while LaTeX is a great exploration of, and e

1. Correct, the dataset was generated back in 2013 and will probably be regenerated for the next NTCIR issue. 2. There are annoying copyright issues with making the datasets available for public use. We're working with arXiv to resolve

So, if you can give me an ill-designed analogy, you think you're making a valid point? Images are not mathematics, they have nothing to do with mathematics. If you take a look at SVG, you may be shocked to find you can do just as much

I am the person behind generating the original NTCIR math datasets, and probably most of the research-produced MathML out there. We've recently presented that we have more than 350 million formulas from arXiv converted over to MathML,

I don't know how many of the people lamenting MathML ever came to exist are active math-on-the-web developers. I for one am dealing with third-party math equations on a daily basis and can only dream of the wonder of ubiquitous MathML

Good HTML output for TeX does exist in various shapes and forms, and in fact Pandoc is one of the weaker converters out there in therms of TeX coverage. You would get better mileage with tools such as LaTeXML[1] or TeX4HT[2], which cover ve
