Ultimately Siri is a chatbot, and the pushback against Siri is a pushback against expectations with chatbots. The movie "Her" is still utter fantasy to mankind. It's a massive stretch to call voice recognition AI, and the rec

Thank god. This has made visiting news websites—say, your local fox channel—nearly unbearable, between the auto-playing ads and content. I can't imagine how people with small bandwidth go to sites these days without an ad blocker.

Competition is great; metal is an afterthought. Vulkan is still unsupported; the OpenGL implementation is still out of date and buggy. If anything, Apple needs competition with themselves. There's no route to a modern graphics API on m

Surely that's just a release build, though...? How would this bottleneck productivity for a team?

Frankly, I can't tell you the last time I found comments on an article to be valuable. I spent the last half hour trying to work out the model before realizing I wouldn't pay a dime for it. But I'm also not the likely demogra

Whatever happened to paying for services? I can't even do that now if I want to avoid staring at what someone else thinks I'd spend money on.

Ehh, I mean TBH I found it surprising that 40% of 25-44 y/os were supporting it; I would most certainly characterize that as 'wide support' (but not majority or plurality).

This would be believable if it weren't for the fact that—ESPECIALLY in 2007 as a high school kid(!?)—it was absurd to buy a smartphone unless you were tied to email. It was just too expensive compared to, say, texting + the $50 flip ph

If you're talking about a statically typed language built for refactoring and static analysis like C# and Java (hopefully one day rust), you're absolutely correct, that's a game changer and you should take advantage of that.

Sure, but then you have other issues with black box databases: 1. Lack of control over configuration and tuning of database. 2. Little control over semantic upgrades, i.e. security updates should be automatic, but one breaking compatibility

That's definitely how Google is acting. Most of the negative feedback I've heard is because it makes it very difficult to bypass amp on mobile (impossible?) and, yes, copy the URL of a google result without linking to google.

There's nothing stopping Cocoa from working on iOS (or UIKit on Mac OS), but they operate on different UI paradigms.

Yup. The recent vice (tobacco) tax laws that target e-cigarettes were (in many cases) a hit job by big tobacco to ensure continued cigarette profits. The only e-cigarette vendors that will continue to exist in two years are the ones you see
