You're changing the subject. We aren't talking about the artist's or scientist's satisfaction, but whether the amount of money they make reflects their usefulness to society. Would you argue that a scientist is less important than a bar te

If their contribution is greater, then why isn't somebody willing to pay them more? If there was such a trove of hidden value, you would think that some greedy capitalist would snap it up and exploit it. You should ask a postdoc making ~3

So you're specifically speaking of China, then? Lots of students from the developed world come to the US for schooling, as well, and see virtually no change in their lifestyle.

My husband is a Korean citizen who came to the US and got an English PhD, and is now going for an MFA in creative writing. Both of his parents came to the US for graduate degrees, as well, before returning to Korea. His mother has an Engl

Maybe, but I've downloaded about 30 books since Christmas. Many were free; I only paid money for 12.

Most people have a strong investment in their worldview, and sometimes have difficulty empathizing with people who don't embrace the same view with the same intensity. There is no one path to fulfillment or happiness that is right for ever

Nah. It depends on what kind of career you want to go into, but the very best time to get into a startup is straight out of school. You don't have a family, or a house, or any of the other baggage that necessitates a steady paycheck and s

I don't come from an Ivy league background, but I did join a start-up directly after school instead of joining a more traditional company. I did it because it was interesting and seemed like way more fun, and also I could wear jeans and co

All science is bought by special interests to a certain extent. Frankly, I think the connections to the oil industry, et al., are not as important as the veracity (or lack thereof) of his claims.

I don't think that at all. I was responding to a post that claimed RMS should use his fame to attract women. I doubt that will work for a number of obvious reasons.

His fame is very subjective. He's not famous in a way that is attractive to the average woman, hence his difficulty in finding an ideal mate. I would presume that if Stallman has romantic troubles, it's due to something other than people

It's not a problem in cosmetology, but it's a huge problem in nursing and elementary education. Qualified people are being discouraged from fields that would benefit greatly from their participation, based solely on their gender.
