So is the proof you're referring to actually asserting anything that isn't trivial? The identity function is one-to-one from the rationals to the reals.

Perhaps the political theorists behind it haven't thought it through, but emasculating men is policy. The first part of this sentence contradicts the second. Emasculating men is not policy. Emasculating men is an unintended side-effect

I'd phrase it by more carefully separating the "is" from the "ought". "Modern, postindustrial society is simply better suited to women" gets the "is" part pretty close, though I'd say it as "modern, postindustrial society is less well-suit

I've seen this asserted dozens of times before, and even though I agree with the observation, the way I see it phrased invariably drives me nuts. Out of all the traditionally "masculine" traits that are in decline, the ones most worth savi

How is that an alternative theory? It reads to me as the same statement, except with an implicit value judgment (men deserve/should-be-entitled-to something better suited to them) layered over top of it.

Bank of America ATMs do this. After entering your PIN, you just press the Fast Cash button rather than the normal OK button, and it'll give you your standard amount and then return your card.

There is no proper math. 99.999999999% is a very silly number. The probability of all of Amazon's datacenters being destroyed in nuclear war within the next year well exceeds 0.000000001%.

There's no reason it can't be if the app is well-implemented (though this is a big if). I suppose it opens up a concern about phone malware, but with checks that's pretty much the least of your problems. It's not like they're terribly sec

Also, how many autistic sociopaths have you ever met? Those two traits just don't go together. I'm autistic and can recognize autistics very quickly. I've met Zuck face-to-face and didn't get any of that vibe from him at all.

Every once in a while I come across a post or comment that's been deaded or a user who's been banned for no apparent reason, which usually turns out to be a mistake by an admin. When I see these I email PG, but there ought to be a more eff

I was one of Facebook's earlier adopters, back when it was still restricted to a handful of universities. I found it to be a useful tool for getting to know classmates. Then the feature creep started and it turned into a product that I ha
