I like static typing, but Pascal seems like a weird choice. Why not ML, or even Java?

Awesome idea. I've been telling people for years that a great way to teach physics would be to write a FPS where c = 10 m/s.

Well, I assume you really mean "troll" rather than "spam", and given the earnest and constructive answers he's gotten so far, I'd say that if he's a troll he's the least successful one ever :-).

Hi javascripter. First of all, welcome to news.yc! There's at least one thing you're already doing right: you're starting out with a problem that interests you. However, I don't think you have quite the right goal. You don't want to be t

It might make sense to award delegates based on the percentage of all registered voters who vote for you, rather than percentage of those who actually vote. IOW, the number of delegates from a state isn't set in advance; it depends on vote

If someone were spending all their time on http://dfranke.us , I'd not so much feel bad for them as be rather scared and probably call the cops.

I can't seem to get this to work on news.yc, at least with my self-hosted OpenID ( http://openid.dfranke.us ). I go through my portal and then the Clickpass portal and get redirected back to a news.yc closure URL, but it just gives me a bl

The Central Limit Theorem... that's a good one. Come to think of it, I felt enlightened by it even despite a teacher who wanted to be an actuary but had to teach AP Stat instead because she couldn't pass her actuarial exam, in addition to

I think the vote-weighting system is a better solution to the same problem, but PG hasn't turned it on (nor completely implemented it, as of arc2).

That's silly. The way to maintain a community is to control who sticks around, not who randomly stumbles across you in the first place.

I think it's a joke alluding to this comment: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=121430 and that he just linked the dullest news story he could find.

There's no objective answer to that. Every transaction is unique, so there's no concept of a market price. It's just pure negotiation, so read up on negotiation.
