As long as you use reasonably secure way to add entropy into the pool, ie. don't XOR stuff into some kind of pool buffer but use something that at least partly resembles secure hash even for adding entropy (as using full-blown SHA-x to

Together with the italicized remark I read that as “there is this unnamed platform that does not use RNG but just hashes bunch of arbitrary system parameters and state and calls the result random-enough”. In fact the unnamed OS does not do

Of historical note is that more than 8 socket Opteron servers were implemented in similar way. There was an chip (IIRC called AMD Horus) that contained two HyperTransport/CoherentLink controllers connected back to back.

One variant how to do that involves something like UCC3750 (ie. telco ringer waveform generator), another is just using sufficiently high powered audio power amplifier.

Except the fact that XR2206 and all similar analog sig-gen-on-a-chip devices are obsolete and essentially unobtainable as raw parts. Ok, you can buy cheap chinese "arduino-like" module that purportedly is built around such chip...

As for what k8s adds here I don't know, but this thing adds to k8s knowledge one interesting fact: It can be useful to run container that does not contain any process doing useful work ;)

Bear in mind that SD Express is SD only in name and otherwise it is just an NVMe in SD form-factor. And how much UHS-II is still an SD is somewhat questionable.

The cable is absurdly thick and absurdly armored only in shallow waters near the landing point (ie. where it is expected to be affected by stuff like boat anchors). In open ocean the cable is actually surprisingly thin for how robust it is.

Many large Python 2 projects come from age when it was not exactly practical to have ~100 external dependencies and thus do not have that. It was the time when one really though about whether having external dependency for this particular s

Actually the idea behond Ctrl-Alt-Del is the other way around. Application can cause the same effect as user pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del (although doing that is somewhat complex due to interactions with UAC), but there is no way how application c

The idea that free space optics are somehow secure against eavesdropping seems to parallel 80's idea that you cannot practically tap into optical fiber. You still should encrypt the link if you at all care about its security.

The general rule for precision electronics is that you want to avoid anything that needs high absolute accuracy (because such things get expensive fast even as discrete components) and instead rely on accurate ratios between parameters, mat

For PC with any graphics card (except possibly MDA) there isn't any sane definition as to what cycle-accurate means at least if meant for the whole system.

Almost all Microprose PC games from early 90's were structured as small .COM driver that switched between some number of separate .EXEs. IIRC there is notable exception of Civilization that used proper overlays.

DD in JCL is not an utility, but keyword. Its functionality is something between shell's IO redirection and mounting volumes inside docker containers. The syntax itself is not that obscure in the context of JCL and IBM OSes.

The CL condition system is completely orthogonal to any concept of continuations or stack unwinding. Both condition handlers and restarts are plain functions and any kind of stack unwinding has to be implemented inside these functions (by m

You should not think of it as malloc replacement but as an GC that can work with native code that does not use fixed stack and register layout. That you can use such a thing for code generated by C compiler is side effect of that. In fact,
